Because in the 1920s they had lower standards and regulations. my house is from the 1920s but we had to revamp the electricity and insulate. that costed a lot of money i don't even think this house had electricity and sewage when it was first build .the electricity we had to replace looked like it could be from the 1950s or 60 maybe. the kitchen and bathroom was build much more recently i think in the 1970s or 80s. so all of that stuff made this house much more expensive for me than it was for the original owners.

  86. i think the 2000s was the last decade were everything just made sense. in terms of technology things like youtube came out and they had a great ui and they used the technology they had to their maximum potential .while now the youtube ui is much worse and they made a lot of bad changes. and things like tiktok and Instagram are really popular despite the technology being less advanced. i think that if you time travelled back to the year 2000 and showed them youtube and tiktok and made them guess what year tiktok and YouTube were created they would probably think tiktok would be older. since its easier to have 1 minute long videos than longer videos. there was a YouTube like website that came out a few years earlier but it flopped because the videos were too short people weren't interested. in the 2010 a lot of tech companies started making decisions that made no sense just to follow trends. and it seems like most of the stuff that existed in 2019 already existed in 2009 in a lower resolution form there wasn't a lot of progress in that decade . in terms of politics and culture things were quite good. people online sometimes say that conservatives wanted to ban video games and pokemon but at least in Europe this wasn't a thing at all. you have to go back to the 1970s or earlier to find right wingers like that who had actual influence. overall the 2000s seemed very secular . i was a little too young for this at the time but but seemed like dating was better most women had realistic expectations. nowadays it seems like they all like the thing they are being told to like. but back then they seemed to have more varied attractions. but things were not really that great compared to even further in the past divorce rates were at an all time high they were actually higher back then than today. most people of my parents generation are divorced. but nowadays a lot of men don't have to worry about that because they can't even get married . the few things i did not like about the 2000s was 1 bad music music started going downhill in the late 90s or maybe even the early 90s .i think 2000s music was actually worse than modern music since nowadays its easy to find alternative music online. but in the early 2000s while it was technically possible to listen to music online and it got quite popular most people used it to listen to mainstream music .and the music i like didn't start showing up until the early 2010s and in the early part of the decade my main sources of music were still the radio and mtv. 2 emo culture i guess it was seen as innovative compared to the hyper colourful and optimistic 80s and 90s but it got old quickly. 3 overpopulation hysteria i found out this has been a problem for much longer than the 2000s. but it was seen as common sense that the world was becoming overpopulated and only recent has there been mainstream pushback. but most of my friends are still think its a big problem because of what thy were told in the 2000s and wont change their mind. i used to hope there would be a moment when wokness just vanishes and society returns to how it was in 2013 or 2008 and we can progress from there with a more logical mindset. but so much time has passed we can't go back to that kind of society i am not saying we are doomed but the future is way too unpredictable

The only time period that my dad was into gaming was in the early 2000s when you had al these realistic shooters about ww2 and the Vietnam war he is obsessed with that .in the 80s and early 90s games where too unrealistic and childish for him. remember most gaming adverts tried to appeal to kids even if the games where so fun adults could enjoy them too. the ads would turn off most people born before 1970 from gaming. that is why so many boomers hate video games but in the 2000s the got more realistic and tried to appeal to adults. this worked for the demographic that was born in the 70s and 80s but older people where too far gone when they saw the childish nes or atari adverts when they where 20 they would never give gaming another chance. i tried to convince my dad to play other games but he thought they here too silly i personally don't care about realism in games

  602. ok so there are a few movies that i remember were milestones in me not liking movie remakes. 1 was king kong 2005 i loved this movie. back in the 2000s and 90s 80s they would only remake very old movies that could benefit from new technologies and most movies that came out in this era were original new ip's so i didn't mind it. in 2010 the a team movie came out the a team was a little before my time but it didn't seem super old. 3 total recall 2012 the 1990 version of total recall was one of my favourite movies and it didn't feel very outdated in 2012 and the 2012 version was just inferior to the original and i was still very young in 2012. and all of this was before wokeness some mainstream Holywood movies from 2010 even had pro Christian messages. but even in the start of the 2010s the originality started going down fast 2010 or 11 was probably the last good year for movies. i watched the force awakens and the warcraft movie and i was very disappointed and didn't go to the movie theatres until 2022 when a friend invited me. and about marvel i used to be a big fan of marvel .here in Europe most people only knew about spiderman and maybe xmen .the comics never came out here so we only knew them from cartoons and movies and before the 2000s it was mostly just kids cartoons .when they announced the fantastic 4 movie in 2004 my friends never heard about them .but i knew about them when they included more obscure characters. like silver surfer dr strange iron man and captain America i was quite hyped. but by like 2014 i was getting sick of it a lot of my friends were still getting hyped for it until more recently when the wokeness got out of control .

  649. 2 advantages Wikipedia has is 1 the history option all old version are archived at least i think so so if the modern version was bad you can just go back to 2004 or whatever year had the best version. the 2nd advantage is language so you can check the Russian or Czech or Japanese or Arabic etc versions of many articles and they are often better than the English ones. and they too have a history opinion so there are many versions of the same article .different countries have different biases the Arabic version about this topic is probably not very useful in this case and you probably want to read in in an east Asian or eastern European language but its great for other things.

  661. yea i agree with this take a lot in the 2000s they tried a lot of new things but even in the early 2010s movies went down hill quickly. too many remakes and marvel movies that drowned out original stuff. in the 2000s remakes of old movies were rare and they mostly remade very old movies like king kong in 2005. but in 2010 they made the a team movie and i didn't think it was very good .but then they made total recall 2012 and i really considered it pointless since i still viewed the movie from 1990 as modern and technology wouldn't improve it much . and the movie didn't have much in common with the original anyway .and these movies weren't even woke that wouldn't be a thing until 2014 or 15 i think there was even a post apocalyptic movie from 2010 about a guy trying to protect the last bible. i was also a big marvel fan in the 2000s and 90s in my country American comics were not popular and we only knew about superman batman and Spiderman and the x men because of the cartoons. when the fantastic 4 movie came in 2004 out non of my friends knew who they were i was the only one who knew about them at my school same with iron man in 2008. i was surprised that they would make movies about these more obscure characters .but nowadays i don't like marvel anymore because they keep retconning the stories and there are way too many marvel movies. some older people hate 2000s movies because they feel more modern and look similar to modern movies and the aesthetic reminds them of highschool or college or their later 20s or even 30s when they were not having as much fun as in the 90s or 80s or 70s when they had a more simple view of the world. the fact that they came out in a year that starts with a 2 instead of a 1 alone is enough for some people to hate on it. the only thing i disliked about 2000s movies compared to 90s movies was the bad soundtracks and dull colors

And the library did not have many books so i managed to read everything they had in a few years.

  720. i have tried to learn over 100 languages but i think Gaelic is one of the worst .its not the hardest its just bad strange grammar and spelling rules that do nothing. i stopped studying it because the teachers were very woke and everything modern in the language is woke. i know its not their fault since its a rare language. but i hoped i could just use older media and learn it like i learned Latin and Yiddish but turns out there are more speakers of it now than 20 years ago .so there is a hole in Irish media so you need to go back to reading 300+ year old books. but then i found out the language changed even faster than English so i can't read anything old in Irish anyway .and i hoped there would be some old black and white movies but most of them were made in recent years .because they have a revival of the language now but it has been hijacked by woke people and only stuff from the 2000s is watchable.

I tried to learn the welsh language but the welsh people are so lame. if you want to learn a language you need to use it. i try to watch youtube videos but all the welsh youtube videos are educational or political. and everything made recently is very woke. the language is on life support and used as a puppet .even Icelandic is more interesting but to be fair its a very low population language an even smaller language i tried to learn with less speakers is Samoan. but they have the opposite problem. they can't go 10 seconds without mentioning the bible. so the problem with learning endangered languages is not really that nobody speaks it anymore. but that the people who still speak it are all in a hive mind and don't tolerate alternative ideas. even in languages like Arabic 99% of the speakers are very devout Muslims. but there is still a small community of secular moderate Arabs. probably over 1 million Arabs are atheist. i think the Celtic lands (Ireland Scotland wales) are probably the wokest places in the world. i don't know why you would think that people who speak endangered languages would be conservative.

Yea in the late 2000s i preferred youtube over tv but unfortunately i still had to share my pc with others and our internet was unreliable and i wasn't home often. smart phones where still a luxury and while i had a laptop since 2008 nobody had working wifi. but everyone had a tv so i still spend a lot of time watching tv but i wish i was watching youtube instead .eventually my internet got more and more reliable and i had my own laptop just for myself. more people got wifi and mobile internet started to be functional so i have not watched tv since 2013.

Yea the 2000s where frustrating for kids i remember wanted to try out a lot of early online games and other things but i was too young and unlike even older media a lot of that early online stuff is lost . i can always go back to play atari games or watch 100 year old movies so i don't feel like i missed out. i also remember the late 90s but not well .but it seems like in the 90s video games where more kid friendly. i think the entire industry was centred for people born between 1975 and 1985 for a long time. like the nes was a kids console the sega mega drive was for teenagers ps1 for young adults ps2 for college age kids and ps3 for 30 year olds. i guess its still way better than growing up today.

Whenever i go to a place with trams i am always impressed with how good they are they show up every 10 minutes and are rarely late .busses and trains are often late and only show up every hour my area apparently had trams too .but they got damaged in ww2 so you had a lot of trams that only went to 2 stations because there were gaps in the network .and most of them got shut down in the 50s and 60s instead of getting repaired. because cars were getting cheap and they improved the roads .but nowadays there are a lot more people who are unable to drive but public transport keeps going downhill they are having less busses and shutting down train stations and most of them have major crime waves . the bus drivers are always striking but they will never give in to their demands . in the 1960s anyone over 18 could get a car .some of them probably weren't competent enough to drive .but i think in the 90s they made you do a more basic free exam. but nowadays you got to spend a lot and if you have learning disabilities you wont make it. and the cost is also very high with all the taxes .everyone i know drives a used car made before 2010 my friend was actually bragging his new car made after the year 2000 and has a cd player instead of a tape player his pervious car was older than him made in the early 90s. my dad also never drove new cars but he would drive a car made in 1989 in 1998. nobody was driving 70s cars in the late 90s anymore . and my grandpa just bought his cars brand new not used. i am a little sceptical about how good the old trams were because they were made in the 1800s and used steam engines compared to the modern ones since they are so good.

Life was simple they tried to make everything very colourful i just watched tv played some game boy games listened to good music read books from the library rented movies on tape. i didn't worry about anything. the downsides where most adults where Chainsmokers and you had to pay for movies on vhs music on tape or cd so that could be a waste of money. if you wanted info on obscure topics the library may not have what you want. and photography was annoying .no cellphones means you can't call for help in case of emergency. the media was much better but if they did lie it was hard to find the truth..

  1149. a lot of the complaints about boomers don't make sense at least as a European. yea houses were cheaper back then but a lot of these guys had to work way longer than modern generations and the early boomers experienced a lot of bad things that aren't a problem anymore in first world countries. my main problem with them and older people in general is that they just lost the ability to adapt and learn new skills. like they believe everything they see on the news because they used to be good and they refuse to learn how to use a computer. like certainly they should be able to see why YouTube is better than cable tv but they can't. and trying to teach them how to use a point and click ui is impossible. i hope i never end up like this they get scammed easily like recently there was a guy trying to scam gen x people by buying the rights to one of the first game consoles. i knew it was a scam but these guys that are 15 to 20 years older than me fell for it. 10 years earlier someone else tried something similar but these guys didn't fall for it back then since they were still in their 30s or 40s and the scammer was too early . boomers are having a much harder time not getting scammed there s a certain youtuber that made guest appearances on this site and he really appeals to the boomers and has strange sponsors taking advantage of boomers. this channel has a younger demographic and you guys don't take a lot of sponsorships

I think the biggest problem with the uk compared to other European countries is that the politicians are just a special class that is out of touch with the rest of the population. in most countries most politicians are of rich origin too but less wealthy people have more of a chance and a lot of these guys were not born rich but got rich over the years. in the uk these guys decent from nobility or their great great grandfather got rich from business but his descendants didn't do anything. sargon tried to become a politician a few years ago but he failed hard while in other countries some similar youtubers did have success in politics

  1254. i find myself using the wayback machine more and more because of my favourite old sites get shut down and are not replaced by new ones there are a lot of links that just end up to discontinued sites and many of these have been offline for over 10 years. people have been making alternatives to the wayback machine but they are too new and don't have most of the stuff i care about .most people didn't care about it in the 2000s and late 90s they thought most of the old sites would stay up forever. or that the things on there would become obsolete or irrelevant or just backed up elsewhere. i used to think that in the future we would have to worry about googling things and getting 20 year old news or other outdated stuff. but turns out that is not the case since 99% of the stuff posted in 2004 has been deleted over the years. as far as books go all the books on archive are available somewhere else anyway and the wayback machine is their most important asset by far. its like a cycle like only in the last few years people started caring about preserving digital media like websites and video games. 50 years ago the same was happening with movies when people found out a lot of movies from the early 20th century were lost because people at the time didn't think people in the future would care about them. but most movies that were made after 1970 are well preserved even the low budget failed ones. and the same happened to books in the more distant past .

I always wanted to go to Disneyland as a kid i went with friends 2 time but i was 19 and 23 but i did not like it the first time it was my sisters idea i had sleeping issues the day before i went there so i had a hard time staying awake and focussed and i did not like it the second time it was with some friends and his mom he was a friend of my friend but he was "special" so it was kind of annoying and the weather was super bad when we went there.

  1302.  @majdjinn5042  1 The technology to do that probably wont exist for centuries .and even if it does we will be limited to mars mercury the moon maybe venus and the moons of the gas giants so it wont be much more. gold is rare in space too unless we invent a way to go faster than light speed or have worm holes .but scientists think its impossible and even then we will just and up having more of everything including more people so gold will still be considered rare even if we technically have way more we will also need way more.

I think Norwegians Dutch and Belgians and the Scottish are worse i am trying to learn a lot of languages and i notice there is more alternative media in Sweden compared to other smaller countries in western Europe big countries like France will always have alternatives and some pride just because they are monolingual and eastern Europe and Asia is too different so these things don't matter.
