@djinnxx7050 You are partially right but gold started becoming a currency in the bronze age or iron age before that people just traded what ever they had. but gold is handy because everyone knows how valuable it is so once civilizations became a thing gold was the most convenient for a long time. if society collapses it will depend on how bad the collapse is but we will probably not return to the stone age. but really these days its just to protect yourself from mass inflation. like lets just say you got 100.000$ saved in the bank. but after 10 years of hyper inflation 100.000 has become the equivalent of 10$ .but the value of gold didn't change much at all so you can sell that gold for modern money and then you will be just as wealthy as 10 years ago.

It was the south African who said it. south Africa has become an English speaking country Afrikaans and Zulu are dying languages. maybe they had different versions of the announcement in other languages.

@majdjinn5042 1 The technology to do that probably wont exist for centuries .and even if it does we will be limited to mars mercury the moon maybe venus and the moons of the gas giants so it wont be much more. gold is rare in space too unless we invent a way to go faster than light speed or have worm holes .but scientists think its impossible and even then we will just and up having more of everything including more people so gold will still be considered rare even if we technically have way more we will also need way more.
