  4. i think this video confused poverty in with culture. if they tried to make something for japan it would probably work out well but if they tried it for Venezuela or Ukraine it would probably have similar issues as in Africa despite those countries being more western. in the end being practical is more important so that is why most of these things failed .like the laptop was all cool and stuff but in 2006 the internet wasn't seen as something as important as it is today. even in richer countries when i had no internet for weeks it was not seen as a big deal but now it would be considered a very big problem. these days you got cheap 4g internet everywhere but in 2006 you had 2g internet that wasn't that slow for the time but ultra expensive. in richer countries you had broadband internet at home or in the worst case dial up .but they didn't have the infrastructure in developing countries now that everything is wireless its easier to get a connection .and here in the rich countries we all used desktops back then because even the cheapest laptop on the market was way more expensive as a desktop i think the cheapest one was 600$ and in the late 90s 2000$ was seen as cheap. but nowadays the cheapest laptops are actually cheap. but in 3rd world countries while they often got electricity it will stop working often so it has to be battery powered. so i think they could have made a modular system were you got a base unit and can buy a screen and battery pack separately if you need it since it depends on your location if you need it or not . but it really makes a big difference but sometimes being cheap i not everything like the zeboo game console that was released in Mexico and brazil was supposed to be a console for the poor that had lower specs but was cheaper in theory. but turns out Brazilians had higher standards than they expected and there were a lot of used famiclones and even ps2's on the market so it had too much competition after all and they couldn't release it in most countries they wanted to because crazy import taxes
