  1. my hobby is collecting old games and computers i like old computers because there where more different standards back then and some regions had their own stuff too. America used different computers than Europe and japan and the soviets ofcourse had their own stuff too that was even more unique but unfortunately computers where still not accessible to most people in the late ussr so they are rare and don't have much interesting software and where behind the times .a lot of it is just clones of thing made in the west like zx spectrum apple 2 pdp11. i wonder how the ussr would have handled the internet .would it be like china or even worse ? maybe they would have made a special network for socialist countries only there aren't a lot of proper communist countries left. the only ones that do like cuba and north korea lack the resources to make their own high tech things. so they just block off the internet completely and are far behind cuba has started unblocking the internet and most people just using old computers that were. imported while in north korea i assume the average person doesn't own one and they use windows xp and linux on computers they got from china. but a country like the ussr would have kept up with the west for longer but modern Russia just ended up importing things .and now they are trying to make their own chips again but they have fallen too far behind .it does show a lot that even in the 80s the ussr had to resort to copying old designs made by American corporations .despite not having to worry about bankruptcy and regulations and competition from other companies. i will say that modern Russia has done some impressive things with tech. like the yandex search engine is decent and vk is better than facebook. most countries do literally nothing when it comes to tech. its kind of a stereotype that Russians are good with computers. i am not sure if that is true after learning Russian at least the average Russian seems even less informed than people in the west maybe the hacker community is just bigger .
