nothing against hockey and other sports but i am sure there was a lot more hype about sports like hockey back then compared to now. since life was more boring especially in the ussr were tv was unwatchable most of the time. these days there is more diversity in entertainment so not everyone is watching sports anymore .its still very popular but people were obsessed with sports back then. i don't remember this period and was never into hockey but i used to be more interested in the football world cups and rally and f1 racing. but now i don't care about it anymore if i was alive in the 80s or earlier i would probably be obsessed with it. i mean sure its still super popular but it seemed all consuming in the past
