Yes, of course. It is expected, however, that you learn the basics BEFORE, not after, you are declared a Jew. The minute you are a Jew, you are like everyone else; it is a terrible sin to treat a "new" Jew any differently than someone who has been born Jewish.
So the process takes some time. The time given to you to learn, so that you enter the family as an equal.
If I may suggest, seek out Chabad Lulyubavitche. You will find them welcoming and supportive In mine, there is a black man from Africa, four women from China --- each of whom reads Hebrew and kbows.Judaism better than I, who was born Jewish. They are a great inspiration for me. All in all there are people from a dozen countries. Nobody cares about the origin -- only about helping each other to be closer to the Creator. No pressure of expectations, just support.
Whatever you decide in the end, may the Creator continue to bless you, sustain you, and grant you a long peaceful life.
