@ Sure. He doesn't know from experience, he is speaking theoretically, based on his understand as best he can without having actually lived it. There is no "tension" between American and Japanese core values. Some of the values are the same, some different, but what causes tension , if anything, is how they are expressed differently. As well as different expectations. Americans also have a lot more variety in their core values, but is is common for both Americans and Japanese to have a love of country, a love of their people, helping others, and so on. Japan is even very freedom of religion minded, like the US. Again, and tension or issues are the result of expression and expectations, and misunderstanding of communication. I have dated Asian women, in Asia and the US, for 16 years, being in a LTR with one for the past 15. Because he doesn't have practical experience, he doesn't understand that there IS a middle ground. A mutual growth and understanding of each other's cultures.
