  1. I was in the Cold War, Gulf War, Iraq War, and 20 years ago I would have advised young men to join, now I tell them to avoid it entirely. My friend from 1990 retired not long ago as an E9, and he says the same thing... DO NOT ENLIST. It is NOT what it was 30 years ago, there is ZERO benefit for men like me to join. Its all risk.
