I had some twat try to say I was privileged because I grew up on a farm, was working from age 8, operating heavy machinery, repairing vehicles and equipment, and lifting heavy shit until I left the farm at 18. Got a construction job, then a job in an aircraft machining plant running Bridgeport mills, drills, and turret lathes. Lost the machining job because I got pink eye and nearly went blind. Worked in a junk yard, getting wrecks, flooded, and theft recoveries running to check the compression, then completely taking it apart and cataloguing the parts and putting them away. Left that job, worked for a seed corn company unloading trucks alone, and on night shift five guys came in to do what I was doing.
Then I enlisted, was sent to Germany loading cargo planes, and my second year there the gulf war started and I nearly got worked to death spending the entire 12 hour shift, and usually a few hours extra, out on the flight line busting my ass working every day from 10 Aug 90 to some time in January 91, then I got one day off per week until September 91. The 92 draw down left me a Mr, so I went to school on GI Bill, got a factory job working full time on 2nd shift, 90F in the plant in winter, 130F in summer, working with 220F compounds and coolants always covered in oil, doing 12 credit hours in the mornings taking mech engineering and automotive tech. Was stupid got married, the factory was packed up and sent to Mexico because of NAFTA, started my shop but all the factory jobs were gone so I didn't get enough customers.
Went back to the military just in time for my second war, got divorced in 2001, and came back from the desert crippled in 2004. That was the first time I drew unemployment. 36 years old, crippled from war, and on unemployment while the VA decided how fucked up I was..
So fucking privileged.
Then a fat chick I know said my life was easier because I am male.
