The car analogy is fun. Except I can take a rusty rolling shell with nothing in it and turn it into a very nice and very reliable daily driver. I can do it dirt cheap too, because I have the skills and knowledge required to do literally everything on a vehicle. When it comes to resale/value, the car I choose to rebuild matters. A 4 door 1972 LTD is not going to be worth much. A 1969 GTO is going to be worth a lot more. I can daily drive an old car, and I do, a 65 GTO and a 70 Cuda are the ones I daily right now. I'm building more... The newer vehicles are worth less, too many electrical issues can crop up.
With 'not fellas' its inverted. They have the highest value when they are 22, and then it depreciates every day and every peg D they take. By the time they are 50, they are almost utterly worthless and no amount of rebuilding will fix it. They are more like boats, the small fiberglass ones that are expensive to buy and maintain, and 20 years later you have to pay to get rid of them unless some doofus gives you money to take on all your problems. Its a hassle to put them on the water and go out, but its fun when you can... as long as they don't break.
They think they are Ferraris, when in reality they are Yugos, utterly worthless and impossible to repair because there are no parts.
