This is why I paid off my mortgage and building loan in Feb 2021. Been debt free since. I knew this was coming, and I didn't want a bank telling me I don't own it anymore. You want a home? Buy a chunk of land in an area where most people don't live. Build a house on it like I did. Avoid cities like they're full of brain munching zombies. You can make money working for yourself instead of stocking shelves, handing people coffee, or whatever nametag and hairnet job you have.
Live within your means, and that is NOT renting a tiny apartment for several thousand a month in a big city full of horrible people. Don't drive a new car, buy a 20 to 60 year old vehicle and learn to keep it running. Its vastly less expensive working on it yourself than taking it to a shop. Harbor Freight, Lowes, Menards, even NAPA has quality low cost tools. There are how to videos on here catering to whatever vehicle you end up getting. I rebuilt transmissions in the bed of my pickup, so you can keep an old car running too.
I saw what the two previous blue regimes did, and I knew they would end up running things into the ground again, so I made it happen during the downturn after 2008. Bought my land in 2013, after putting work into it, I could sell it for a hell of a lot more than I have in it... but I am not selling it. I like living here, and I can live off my land if I have to. Looks like I will have to in the next few years.
