Never heard of her before this, which is rather surprising considering how many C130, C141, C5, C17 crews I knew. I was in the USAF (Air Cargo) 1988-92 and 2000-05, Desert Storm, OIF/OEF, lots of humanitarian missions, loading planes all over the world. I was deployed to Kuwait in September 2001 and I knew what was coming when I saw the second plane hit, just had to wait and find out who would be finding out the hard way.
I was downsized in '92, against my will, but we didn't need as many people since the Wall came down. Tried to stay in, but no job was available to me. My 2004 deployment was my last, came back messed up, barely able to walk. Not from enemy action though, its a long story. Tried to stay in but if you can't run, you can't deploy they told me.
The USAF is small enough now, and I was part of it long enough, that we probably have mutual friends/acquaintances. Most of us don't talk about our time in the AF. Its cool that she can tell her story so well, and gets the chance to do so.
