  1. I've been rebuilding 99-07 Silverados to use as winter vehicles and to haul things long distance with my dog, since most of them are extended cab or crew cab. I added two more leafs from another truck I scrapped out to the back of my 2000 extended cab 1500 4x4, and now it doesn't squat when I hook up to my 1800lb car trailer. Just drove 2600 miles with it last week to pick up a 1932 Pontiac, I've made it into a very capable tow rig. Also have 76 and 84 C10s, short box 2wd, they are my fun parts chasers, when I need to haul something bigger than I can fit in a 64-72 GTO. The newer trucks will go out in the salt and snow, the old stuff stays home like the muscle cars once the salt is out there, but all summer they get worked. The 50 Chevy I got last year is going on an 05 2wd chassis, then I can use a 6.0 and 4l80 to make it a tow rig/fun toy to pull the drag cars to the track. There is NO FREAKIN WAY I am going to pay $80k for a new truck, not when I can fix a $500 rust pile for about $1500 and make it almost new again. After 2007 the electrical systems are too complex and therefore too expensive to repair, because I am not spending a few grand on a scanner/programmer so I can make the BCMs talk to the TCMs and everything else just so the window will roll down. I owned a repair shop 25 years ago, I know what is required and I will not make that investment. Honestly if I could go completely back to carburetors I would, but its so easy to get a rusted out truck with a functional EFI system and good running engine, and I can do fun things with ethanol fuel to get very good mileage with EFI. Give me simple without all the extra crud, because I absolutely loathe chasing wires.
