Comments by "tooltalk" (@tooltalk) on "Canada to Hit China with More Tariff on EVs" video.
@drscopeify It's not just their currency. China has been fairly blatant in subsidies violations for quite some time -- ie export subsidies and local content requirement.

Did you not listen to the video? There is no Chinese EV other than Tesla's -- the tariff can't hit consumers when they never had access to them in the first place.

No Western country can build affordable EVS yet because China cornered the EV battery supply-chain as a result China's anticompetitive, discriminatory NEV practices past 10 years. We are going to need at least a couple of additional years to develop our own.

@drscopeify The labor cost is not what's making EVs expensive -- it's the battery raw materials/refining supply-chain that is largely now destroyed by China's market distortion.

China has banned foreign EV battery companies primarily from Japan and South Korea since 2015 to corner the battery supply-chain. The US and Canada can and should keep Chinese out for at least a decade.

@drscopeify The US, Canada, and Mexico have the USMCA which allows low-trade barriers. The EU and the US always don't agree on trade -- still no free-trade agreement in fact, but they do agree on China's anticompetitive NEV practices which hurts international trades.

overcapacity in the EV, real-estate, and CCP propaganda...

@nicolasgiroux2136 it's "good enough" car for the price, which wouldn't have been possible without the CCP's subsidies violation.
