Mr. Nathan Rich, does that mean your call was not spied on by the CCP?

>> In a 1.4billion population, apple is going to take a huge slump << That's what they said about Samsung too.. To this date, Samsung is #1 in global smartphone sales!

@xzybit1984 : >> Neither India nor Vietnam can substitute to the Chinese market. << China's smartphone market is saturated -- there is no more growth. India and Vietnam may not yet be ready, but are where the growth will come from. >> Replacing the Chinese industrial and logistical advantages is even harder. << Actually no. Most of Apple's key supply-chain ALWAYS existed outside China -- China only provided cheap labor for assembly/packaging and other low-value, low-tech components like screws, rubber seals, and etc, etc. >> Apple is trying to move out but it's tough for them. << Ask Samsung, the largest smartphone maker in the world, who exactly did that years ago -- they closed the last Chinese smartphone factory back in 2019.

@xzybit1984 >> Even if the market is saturated growth can come from taking competitors market share << Apple already achieved 20% of China market share and everything is downhill from here -- those who want iPhones already have one. >>Saying that Apple was using China for just for low-value, low-tech packaging is utter rubish. << It just means that you have no idea how smartphone supply-chain works. Like I said, when Samsung was forced out of China back in 2015, they packed up and moved down South with 200+ suppliers. And they could do that b/c most key components are made in South Korea, Japan, and US/Taiwan. You can't name a single high-tech, high-value iPhone component that can only be made in China for obvious reason -- they don't exist. >> There is a reason why Elon Musk chose China as Tesla's first oversea factory. << LOL. It seems like you don't know much about EV suppy-chain either. Musk went to China first for oversea manufacturing b/c China is the largest auto market in the world. This however comes years after -- Musk always looked to Japan for their supply-chain and other technical aspirations. And that is precisely why Tesla first started with Panasonics NCA batteries --China came only after Musk had worked out "production hell" after which his company became enormouslyi successful.

@xzybit1984 >>> Apple is trying hard to move to India since 2019 with its suppliers but both Apple and its suppliers are encountering big problems. << Apple never tried to diversify beyond China (and their stance hasn't changed much even in the light of the recent iPhone ban). The last thing Apple wanted to do was to upset Xi and announce their move to India or Vietnam, especially after witnessing how Samsung, who had 20% of China's smartphone market share back in 2013, was forced out under Xi's state industrial policy to make room for domestic weaklings. It was revealed not surprisingly by the Information a few years ago that Tim Apple in fact in 2016 struck a deal to invest $260+B in China's domestic tech/supply-chain industry to keep Xi happy and remain in China. Sure, India is a dysfunctional democracy and has many flaws of its own, but if Apple was really motivated, they would have done it.
