Comments by "tooltalk" (@tooltalk) on "EU's Von der Leyen Announces Anti-Subsidy Probe Into Chinese EVs" video.
>> Chinese made Tesla are cheaper because the bleeding edge of battery technology are Chinese. << China's LFPs are cheap, inferior batteries suitable for entry-level, low-range EVs or stationary energy storage system. China's battery industry has been heavily subsidized and protected from foreig competition at least since 2015.

>> There is no reason for China to adopt the Western model. << Sure, China can subsidize all their want as long as they don't export. Alas, China already pumped billion and overbuilt their EV battery supply-chain to dominate the EV export market and just announced another $72+B over next 4 years.

@CulturalXplorer19 >> it would be more accurate to say, they know they cannot compete against Chinese companies.. << It's more accurate to say China doesn't believe in competition or playing by rules.

@negrevallsette2980 Please stop making stuff up about things you don't understand. Most raw materials for EV batteries come from Australia, Chile, and Indonesia. About 60+% of them are refined in China because of pollution. The EU doesn't want to pollute their backyard, so they are going to let China pollute theirs -- instead the EU is going to focus on recycling.

@ftu2021 >> 1. A lot of developed countries subsidies their industry. << If they do, they are getting punished for it -- the French wine was subjected to a 25% import tariff in the US for instance. >> 2. China is still a developing country << That's no excuse for violating the rules they agreed to follow.

Their electricity is also super cheap! 60% fueled by coal! Isn't this great?

@sleepyjoe7843 : Thank you China for polluting even more to produce clean energy vehicles!
