@MrPathorock : no, it wont. Apple iPhone's AP's were once made in Texas -- ironically by its largest competitor Samsung.

No, not really. The equpment companies like ASML requires high-precision machines from Germany and Japan, not from China.

@anti-bullingjames : China's chip industry accounts for only about 8% of all chips produced globally. Their domestic market is only about 20% -- vs 25% in the US. China imports most of their chips b/c they are assembled/packaged/tested in China -- the key word here is "imported." Samsung's bread and butter is in DRAM and it's really all they know how to do. South Korea's fabless industry isn't all that and Samsung isn't ready to take over the logic chip market.

@ASK-ko9qx : why are you worried so much about American chips? Most chip manufacturing is already outsourced in the first place to deal with this kind of downturn in business cycle. In the short run, it means less business, but their potential loss is minimized since there is no idling factory or forloughed employees -- the cost of scaling up/down their manufacturing is zero and is born by the contract manufacturers in Asia (and many more millions employed in assembly/packaging/testing in China). The US accounts for only about ~15% of all chips produced globally and there is enough market to absorbe domestic production. Further, China was never the major factor driving down chip production cost or retail prices, and the chip costs/prices have been in steady decline for the past 40+ years with/without China.

@Xstevenn : Sure, Apple iPhone's SOCs were made in Texas until 2012-2013. Apple ditched Samsung's cheaper fab in Texas in favor of TSMC in Taiwan.

@anti-bullingjames : the US is the biggest market for all electronics. China imports 3/4 of all chips for assembly/packaging, but they are exported out -- ie, they are not consumed domestically. China's most advanced lithos are made by SMEE and their most cutting edge nodes are 28+nm, which was announced earlier this year. None of their existing manufacturing equipments are made domestically -- they are all imported -- as are the folks running SMIC's 7nm, who are ex-TSMC expats.

@刚-o2h : Sure, you just have no idea what you are talkinga bout.

Intel's most cutting edge processing node is 10/7nm and China still has to import all chip-making equipments from the US and Japan (and the EU).

except when it's not -- eg, when China plays unfair.
