@ScoobieDoo-zy1rh It makes a lot of sense as it's always been that way past 15+ years. All high-value, high-tech components, such as, OLED display (South Korea), camera sensors (Japan), AP/wireless modem (US/Taiwan), memory/storage (SK/US) are made outside China; then imported into China -- to the tune of $420B in 2022 -- then exported out to the world. No worries, China has hundreds of small suppliers that make a lot of low-value, low-tech components, such as screws, rubber seals, cases..
As said earlier in other comment, this is precisely why Samsung, the largest smartphone maker in the world, pulled out of China without anybody noticing it.
