  1.  @olderchin1558  : There is no ban on older generation lithos. China accounts for less than 2% in manufacturing equipment -- everything gets imported. SMEE's own most cutting ege node is 24/28nm and the company plans to make those lithos later this year with parts and tech gathered from the declining Japanese DUV equipment industry. Packaging/Assembly/Testing are done in China b/c of their relative low-tech & high labor/capex intensity. There is nothing new about China's emerging fabless business -- and apparently Cambricon is allowed to use TSMC's 7nm. None of these are proof that sanctions are somehow allowing "uncompetitive" Chinese companies to survive or mature.

  2. Not sure what you mean. Most of these chips made at SMIC and Cambricon, etc are made by TSMC and ASML and others in the West. Let's not also forget that SMIC itself is a creation of former TSMC engineers like Liang Mong-Sang. You guys make it sound like China is organically developing their own chip industry.

  3. LOL China still depends on the West/Japan for almost 90% of semiconductor manufacturing equipments (eg, ASML) and has yet to organically develop their own that competes with EUVs. SMEE has the the most cutting edge lithos "organically" developed with parts and expertise from Japan and it's 3-4 generations behind. Good Luck. LOL!. Just one more thing, China has had space/long-range missile program since 1960's.

  6.  EMAN67:RP forum  : you guys really have no idea what's going on. The US has not cut the supply chain -- their sanction only applies to the cutting edge EUVs nodes. China still has access to processing nodes larger than 7nm DUVs and I'm guesing the US hasn't banned it b/c it was relatively fairly old and still generate revenues for American based suppliers. China's most cutting edge processing node is 28nm by SMEE -- developed with Japan's parts and expertisse and they are good for building auto-parts and other ancient stuff.

  7.  @nmew6926  Please cut this out. Most advanced tech components are still made in the developed countries + Taiwan and South Korea. Most labor intensive and relatively low-tech components/part of the supply-chain is handled in China (eg, packaging and assembly).

Take for instance, China's space program which was started by a US-educated scientist in the 60's, it pretty much stagnated until China was able to steal key space/satellite tech from Loral/Boeing back in the 90's. China had little or no chip industry to speak of until fairly recently.
