It's cobal that's mined in Congo, not nickel.

@thomas4315 : >> " ... LFP type battery market share for EV's reached 31% ..." And much of that is in China where LFP are used in cheap, low-end, short-range EVs.
1
@Jimmyxsx : this is very myopic.

@taliasun7568 ; the EV batteries are almost made by South Koreans and Japanese. China's LFP batteries also catch fire -- and there were at least 80+ such cases in China last year -- but the Chinese batteries are cheaper.

@cinpeace353 : I suspect that this is going to be CATL's gateway to the US market. Ford won't stop with just the licensing CATL's LFP and building them in the US which isn't likely to be ready 'til 2026 or so; they are going to pretty soon start importing LFP's directly from China

@axepro3053 : "... In the top 10 battery manufacturers list, china already have 6 in the list ..." Spoken like a true Xie's $0.50 army, wumao, pumping Chinese companies. The US is falling behind because of Ford, Apple, and others who sell out to China.. China has only 1 global EV battery player outside China. You wonder why, if those Chinese battery makers are as good as you say they are, they can only operate inside heavily protected, anti-competitve, discriminatory Chinese market.

@taliasun7568 : Honey, these batteries that Ford is buying is for cheap, short-ranged EV's. Unbelievable what Ford would do to improve their margin.

@heartbeat8960 : Japan, Germany and the US have the majority of hydrogen fuel cell patents. There is no "patent transfer" between Ford and CATL -- Ford is "licensing" CATL's patents/manufacturing. The US is not really teaming up with China -- most expect the South Korean EV battery makers to eventually take as much as 75% of the US market.
