@doyoueatrocks "or doesn’t take US clients" that's the route swiss banks prefer by a wide margin.

the german tax relies on a simple check: if you got a german adress, you are taxed. your actual residence period means nothing if you own the place or the adress is your parent's home; your absence counts the same as if you were on a long vacation from home which means nothing at all for tax purposes. :p basically you have to cut ties with germany and only visit short term and stay in hotels. dont even try to play shenanigans with german Finanzamt; their patience to catch you lasts longer than yours :p

citizenship by descent is mentioned so often, but you cannot stress it enough: always seach your anchestry up to grandparents and great grand parents. you might dig up something useful. citizenship by descent is usually a free road to dual citizenship too.
23
9:10 it was a clear violation of human rights to deny citizens the right of entry at home. it doesnt matter if your citizens were literally bubonic plague on 2 legs and virulent or not: you have to take them back. no exceptions for covid or other reasons government might wave around Article 13.2 of UN declaration sees to that: Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.

a downfall of an empire is a rough time :(
18
europe is not obsessed with guns, for good reasons. switzerland has a lot of guns BUT they are also well regulated. it's a privilege, not a right.
18
@loganpraetorian mountainous regions do not grow vegetables ;)
13
to be honest: UK is never on a listof liveable cities, not even London itself.
12
you may get INTO such countries, but your home country is not obliged to let you back in without mandatory quarantine.
12
if it helps: citizens of the 30 schengen members (plus San Marino Monaco Andorra and Vatican) can come and go whenever they want. 60 other countries are eligible for ETIAS (if it would launch today) which is for short stay (for up to 90 days within any 180-day period) and nothing else. residence and working permits are a total different bunch of bureaucracy ! citizens from El Salvador and Malaysia are eligible for ETIAS btw. and all 5 mentioned caribbean CBI are onboard as well. especially for caribbean CBI the "access to Schengen" is a sale argument, so the caribbeans play nice. they cannot boast about ESTA or visa free access to Canada or Australia because they are not on those lists so ETIAS is their crisp cookie to wave. ;) all participating countries must adhere to schengen rules and remember: any visa policy is up to the host, not the guests; sorry to burst a bubble
11
some are pretty redundant, but why not :)
11
@BlaowVEVO nobody is so obessed with weapons in west europe to think of it as an argument, sorry
10
who cares about Russia ? not everybody and their grandma is aiming for wealth tax and as you are eligible to settle where such tax is anathema you are not affected.
10
if by descent: take both, it wont hurt
10
as if UAE is that dumb....
9
not even german citizens or german firms could deposit something, the #1 spot from the list is off the table.
9
keep the swiss, avoid the US one like bubonic plague. even the non-us wife/husband is screwed with IRS duties.
9
your parents were obliged to ask for Beibehaltungsgenehmigung or they cheated and never told at home they are australians by now. :)
9
as long you paid taxes on the money earned you are good to go; there is no obligation to stay whatsoever
8
for germany: the restriction mentioned would apply if german citizenship is obtained by naturalization: you have to forsake your former citizenship, but lot of exceptions exist. some countries would just outright deny your wish of renouncement of the "former" one, so germany will wave that requirement. all other EU citizenships + Switzerland are also excempt. :) for CBI example: if a german would aquire St. Kitts and Nevis or whatever citizenship outside of EU/Switzerland: loss of german citizenship on the spot UNLESS the citizens asked nicely to keep german citizenship AND asked prior to the naturalization abroad. still in german gov discretion to grant that if a german citizen was born where ius solis is a thing: that's cool too. you cannot be blamed for your place of birth ;)
8
@Electra-xm7lu Amerigo Vespucci , to put a full name to the guy :)
8
since when is Hawaii in Kenya ? :p
7
"by descent" is ofc a jackpot but it takes time usually.
7
i wonder what USA will have to say: all caribbean CBI secured a spot on ETIAS list of "our most dear friends who need no visa to EU/EEA" already. EU wont ask USA in the matter :p
7
UAE is part of IBAN-system for payments, also Qatar Kuwait Bahrain Saudi Arabia and what not. should be easy to move money to you :p perhaps not as fast as with SEPA (the posh "EU+friends" part of IBAN), but still :)
7
you do not count every property of UK as a separate country ;) otherwise such a list would include Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, Gibraltar etc.
7
@adamnixon5503 "If the minimum is not in fact the minimum, then raise your minimum amount to open an account." perhaps they should. but it also says: " move along, you are to poor to get us interested" lot of people would not stomach such honesty. :p
6
some type of reporting = FATCA and yes, it is a problem
6
China rants about it for decades...nothing happened :p
6
#5 wont help; you have to cut ties with USA.
6
if you are french citizen: not to Monaco. special agreement with principality to tax you as if you were in france. if you are not french citizen then it is Monaco because zero tax on personal income. businesses will be taxed still.
6
CBI takes time, you better start yesterday
6
@alansjf33 well, you are prepared then. :) most people thinking about renouncing are still stuck at that stage.
6
9:50 #34 is Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe ? everybody and their grandma bank there here in germany; seems my own money already there is safe then :D
6
@escalatedpumpkin all such visa are collected in an EU-wide visa database and therefore EU knows you spent days already. my guess: you will have to wait 90 days outside.
5
yes, but if you renounce, the question arises
5
ummm, you expect citizenships handed out like candies on halloween ? it is to support your new home country
5
Iceland then. afaik they are against circumcision for religion's sake, so the jews are mad at them.
5
another serious reason: he donated a kidney to her, it was urgent back in 2017.
5
you cannot leave host country, thus cannot travel
5
easy: if you cannot put it to good use it is worthless for the program.
5
@yeomantrader9505 Belize is former british-honduras :)
5
Alyona Savchenko from Ukraine and Bruno Massot from France were naturalized in germany 2005 and 2017. already 2 times olympic bronze medalist in pair skating Alyona searched a new partner prior to Pyeongchang 2018 and the rest is history: gold medal/olympic champions and world cup winners 2018 changing citizenship for the win, why not :)
5
to poke the devil: does UAE tell USA about your business ? :p
5
hmmmmm better start searching for handsome european bachelors/bachelorettes as plan b you know: marrying us is another way for residence rights :p
5
UK citizens enjoy visa waiver access via ESTA program to USA; so far so good if your exit was clean, then you should be good
5
tax filing to IRS is a YOU problem; get rid of the citizenship and the burden is cancelled
5
my guess: you take the EU passport and then set up shop elsewhere. once naturalized nobody can take the burgundy passport from you anymore
5
@SurpriseMeJT afaik IRS got the PM of UK Boris Johnson to pay taxes to them from a house sale because he was natural born citizen, so it seems they got some leverage ;)
5
that's what second citizenship for US citizens is for.... you need one to renounce the first :)
