@Fenrasulfr the english term is Principality, so the head of state is a prince. still the same as monarch and not to confused with "son of king", who is a prince too. the superior to Prince of Liechtenstein would be the Holy Roman Emperor, but such a title does not exist anymore :D
108
it pays off to build; his pyramid is the earliest AND the last intact building of the seven wonders of ancient world. the other 6 fell to earthquakes and fires etc. Man fears time, but time fears the pyramids arab proverb
76
grandson George is always able to keep it and become George VIII. aside from the 8 Henrys and 8 Edwards George is the next most used name afaik
47
@aarn700 in his case african + american, because he skipped all that slave part.
42
@smallrossy daughter of Henry, wife of Henry, mother of Henry :D the sole living legal offspring of Henry I. and wife to HRE Heinrich V. and mother of Henry II. her claim to the throne was disputed by the distant male relatives of her father and so Stephen of Blois became king instead, years of civil war followed
40
anti-monarchists, do they even exist "up on the young Rhine" ? :D
39
@onneheijsteeg8507 maybe confused Liechtenstein with Luxembourg, the head of state of the latter is a grand duke.
27
it hinges now on Hisahito, the nephew to current emperor Naruhito. if he fathers daughters only, the issue is on the table again.
24
for a free Interpretation of the Pazzi events the fictional Ezio Auditore is your guide :)
15
@jonathan1450 fun fact: the bishop is of course installed with papal discretion. so one monarch is able to dictate who is the other monarch. :) pope Benedict XVI. elevated the acting Bishop to Archbishop as personal title. would be funny if the pope created him cardinal even, so the Co-Prince of Andorra is able to elect another monarch (new pope) too.
14
Hellenic Republic = Elliniki Dimokratia the english and original designations for today's Greece :D
12
@vrenak Westminster Abbey is a royal peculiar, the monarch can do what he/she wants and if they order a burial there, it would happen. :)
12
yep, just because they are not kings, the grand duchy of Luxemburg is still a thing. and principalities of Monaco and Liechtenstein are independent entities for a long time.
11
@Fenrasulfr no prob. ranks of nobility are confusing sometimes; especially the co-princes of andorra: a spanish bishop and the french president :D
9
@LurpakSpreadableButter yes, he missed.... but it was close.
7
@emilybarclay8831 still a fancy and valid name. :)
7
@red.aries1444 prince Philip turns 100 in a few months. he is on track to become longest living consort and is already the longest living descendant of Queen Victoria.
6
George I. was also elector of Hanover. kings of the Plantagenet family were from the House of Anjou, Dukes of Normandy and Aquitaine; those were buried anywhere in their vast realms if they choose so.
6
@naomid5806 and also to expel him from Westminster Abby after all :)
6
a flat argument as monarchs usually sit on trust/estates which already provides for maintenance. but presidents leech on taxpayers, because there is nothing else to provide.
5
fun fact: Philip himself was also in line of succession somewhere down the queue; he was descendant of Queen Victoria's daughter Alice
5
@Fenrasulfr both are hereditary Principalities. so far so good. :)
5
Elizabeth the Eternal will make it :)
5
nice for you. if you feel better because you stated your faith here: irrelevant, sorry
4
@dorderre unfortunately the House of Anhalt runs out in the agnatic line and thus the 2 eldest daughters of Eduard von Anhalt did not change the name upon marriage or did not marry at all, so their children are princes and princesses still.
4
@MisterSquirtle afaik populace of LI is not so adamant against the principality for a chance of a change. or the populace knows they cannot seize the property to keep it for whatever republic they envision ? a poor republic is not an advantage over a rich prince. ;)
4
@Romartus Edward VIII. neither, they took the scheduled coronation date for George VI. afaik .
4
"insieme per la vittoria" :p
4
@gidzmobug2323 as James will inherit all titles his father carries or will carry, he is not short of fancy titles. he is already Viscount Severn by courtesy title.
4
Duke Eduard von Anhalt decided to do exactly that; the other houses just lack the will.
4
hindu and beef ? naaah ! :)
4
presidential systems fail in the same category, so what ?
4
@jamesclendon4811 Lancaster + Crown Estates >>>> Cornwall :) most of revenue of Crown Estates fills the coffers of the treasury, but still an allowance to kill for ;)
3
me lives in Baden, a former Grand Duchy. such a title would be posh as eff :D
3
male primogeniture still afaik
3
since when do atheist use Nietzsche ? no need for that :D
3
depends on his and brother richard's survival. lot of ifs like marriage yes /no, living offspring yes/no etc. still a chance the claim would have passed over to their sister and suddenly we are in known territory again. Elizabeth of York married Henry VII. and their daughter became queen of scotland, which leads to Mary Queen of Scots and James VI/I as usual
3
@northatlanticcommonwealth1188 we know she'll go to Windsor, if it happens. it is a bit spooky to know your burial place decades ahead ?
3
@Inzersdorf93 Karl's mother was Regina Prinzessin von Sachsen-Meiningen; he (and siblings) could claim german citizenship any time. his son Ferdinand is rich with citizenships; his maternal line is german hungarian and swiss.
2
everybody is related here :)
2
and what of the other billionaires ? .)
2
@emilybarclay8831 Ernst August Prinz von Hannover Herzog zu Braunschweig und Lüneburg Königlicher Prinz von Großbritannien und Irland is still in line, but very distant.
2
even with Seth considered evil, there were 2 Pharaos named Sethos and they were not the bad.
2
since the counts of Foix merged with the french throne (long winded line of succession), french kings and then its emperors and presidents hold the title of Prince of Andorra bishop of Urgell in spain is the other prince, whole Andorra is part of the diocese the relations will be small, but a fine distinction is the fact that one other ruler, which is the pope, has to consent to install the clerical co-ruler of Andorra. by the way: if catholic, the french president usually claims the medieval privilege (bestowed upon Henry IV. of france) to be clergy of honour to the lateran basilica, the pope's seat as bishop of rome.
2
Felipe was free to wed a journalist and his sisters are married to commoners as well. fat chance nobody will bat an eye over whatever Leonor brings home unless he is non-catholic.
2
conclave is an election
2
@beverlyarcher3744 Queen of Alderan for a very brief moment, BUT she inherited every wealth of the Organa family outside of the system.
2
@Fenrasulfr aah happens :)
2
@Edmonton-of2ec LI is tied to CH (currency and postal zip codes etc); otherwise the monarchy would have been abolished like the austrian's 100 years ago. fortunately for tiny Liechtenstein Switzerland is cool with it.
2
Edward IX. would immediately bestow princely titles upon his offspring by tradition. Louise becoming Princess Royal is also secured
