Viscount Severn was not granted to James, it is his courtesy title. as soon Edward becomes Duke of Edinburgh, James becomes Earl of Wessex and Forfar by same courtesy tradition

be glad no photos of all those other people mentioned in vid existed. ;)
59
@edwardviofengland8048 Queen Letizia will turn 49y in sep 2021. unless something really bad happens which would lead to a 2nd marriage of Felipe VI. i cannot see a male heir on the horizon.
51
@pedanticradiator Mathilda aka "daughter of Henry, wife to Henry, mother of Henry" left the throne to the mentioned Henry, aka King Henry II.
25
it was a nice circumstance she was "daughter of Henry, wife of Henry, mother of Henry" :)
17
first: it is habsburg still, they never wrote the name with p second: of course the family exist and in many branches. they were after Charles II. still adamant about "first class" marriages, but toned it down some notches. for the current generation see Otto of Habsburg's children.
16
@RedaDoodles english is not my first language, my knowledge is more on the habsburg side :p
13
the young ladies gathering at 27:48 shows future royalty of europe: all of the 4 will be queens regnant in due time. from left to right: Estelle of Sweden, Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, Ingrid Alexandra of Norway and Elisabeth of Belgium
12
dragon king.....a banger of a title :p
8
huh ? he became duke immediately in 1952 and was formally proclaimed duke later when he was adult
5
also remember all the siblings of charles did not wed any noble.
5
citizens or inhabitants ? the latter dominate the populace, but still: nobody lives there without wealth. no taxes on income is a nice encouragement :)
4
you need a knighthood/damehood attached and it is limited to uk citizens
3
@thunderbird1921 his mom was Grace Kelly, what did you expect ? :D
3
Garter is sole discretion of the monarch
3
@thekingsdaughter4233 not if Edward is Duke. by then the Earl is courtesy title for James
3
Sir Patrick + Sir Brian please :)
2
25:15 scotland yearns to be republic ? never heard of such sentiment; they wish to break up with england, but not with the queen AFAIK.
2
the heir might be monarch, but the succession continues with siblings. other than Sweden with the adopted Bernadotte heir the other monarchies are adamant about blood relatives out of marriage
2
13:15 multiple ways to Knighthood / Damehood exist, not just by Order of the British Empire Sir Patrick Stewart is Knight Bachelor; Sir Paul McCartney also Dame Julie Andrews is Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire current PM Sir Keir Starmer is a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath former PM John Mayor is Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter
2
what is wrong with Leonor ?
1
@ ok, dunno if those 2 like to be adressed as such. ;) but hey, it is the perfect opportunity to call someone by first name. :) for another bucket list: Dame Judy Dench Dame Julie Andrews Dame Joan Collins
1
usually they stick with one from their given names. Charles Philip Arthur George allows Charles III. or George VII. easily. btw: Edward VIII. was named Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David just because he was called David in his younger years was totally irrelevant.
1
Sir Brian now :)
1
with Albert's 2 sisters and their offspring the dynasty is secured. why even bother with a new treaty ? Caroline of Monaco and Hanover alone brings 3 children and 7 grandchildren to the line of succession
1
well, it sucks to be english then. :) in germany all titles (after germany became republic in 1918) became part of the name AND every descendant is entitled to the style of their respective anchestor unless (in case of the females upon marriage) their name changed. lot of princes and princesses and counts and barons and whatnot around nowadays the princesses and countesses etc. may refuse to take on the name of their husband, unless those lads are noble too. it allows them to confer their "long name" upon their children.
1
@flightyone9004 yep age of consent in most of western europe is way lower.
1
@davidhoward2487 Dracula is fiction, Vlad Tepes is not
1
not anymore and as Caroline alone is grandma of 7 grandchildren the dynasty is well stocked
1
@oliverkarehag9883 speech at papal coronation: Accipe tiaram tribus coronis ornatam, et scias te esse patrem principum et regum, rectorem orbis in terra vicarium Salvatoris nostri Jesu Christi, cui est honor et gloria in saecula saeculorum pope is "Father of kings and princes, Ruler of the world, Vicar of our Saviour Jesus Christ" :)
1
is it retroactively ? Albert has 2 sisters with lot of offspring, plenty of heirs :D
1
if you want a look search for the announcement of Philip's death in british media. they took some minutes to let the news narrators who were present at the minute to change into something somber, then broke the news. they are prepared for such events but if it happens it is still chilling to see it happen and the news anchors are not immune to the occasion.
1
look for the other ancestors in that line, not everybody of them is cousin-to-cousin related.
1
my mother's maiden name is König, but trust me...not a bit of nobility involved :)
1
Maximilan was elected King of the Germans during lifetime of Emperor Frederick III. , the title merged with emperor soon-ish
1
do your homeworks and google Crown Estates; especially the 8 figures every year to HM Treasury. or go ahead, abolish monarchy and then pay for your president without revenue from the ~14bn portfolio.
1
@jeandehuit5385 all in grey area, as nobody really thinks about the complications or even want to elaborate. :)
1
@dannyrook9944 nope, all descendant sof Andrew rank above Edward's
1
@ilovesmysangsomsangsom3500 afaik Albert is a given name to most princes because of Prince Consort Albert but they never use it as regal name out of respect at same time.
1
@ilovesmysangsomsangsom3500 Prince William was not named Albert among his 4 given names, but his brother was maybe the family will drop the tradition by now; the consort to Queen Victoria is after all gone for a very long time already.
1
today is 1st june 2022; Elizabeth clocks 70y+115d she will equalize Rama IX on 12th june per my calculations and it seems nothing will stop her from doing that. after this date the bets are off :)
1
what was confusing about that ?
1
your ancestors were entitled to keep the rank as part of the name which is more than pleasant
1
elected head of state.
1
Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Grecia is already fancy enough :D
1
Cayetana ? yep former Duchess of Alba and the full list of titles is much longer
1
15th cousins is not family anymore. your parents may have same grade of relation. :p
1
they receive a salary for representing or in case of UK they even pay to be head of state. :) wont happen, sorry
1
imperial Austria claimed the same rulership.
1
Philip is a prince of denmark and greece, royals are related anyway
1
see ancient myth of Oedipus. he is excused though....
1
@andypham1636 yes, the titles stay with him but the heir gets one fur funsies. we know "Viscount Severn" is a lesser title to "Earl of Wessex and Forfar" thus we know James is Edward's heir. if you would meet "Viscount Hinchingbrooke" you would be at loss perhaps to know the connection: that's the heir to "Earl of Sandwich". but some like Viscount of Megiddo or Viscount of Alamein are standalone titles in their own right. just by title alone you never know if it's a subsidiary title or head of the house.
1
@stevedunwoody880 Earl of Merioneth is not on the table afaik; Edward is Earl twice already. Baron Greenwich (the lowest title Phiilip held) will likely remain in the desk too.
