It had begun. But they quickly realised their innitial plan wasn't going to work. That is what i think. And they switched their aproach to one of simply wearing the russian army down while preserving their own strength as much as possible. A pretty good decision imho. I am glad they didn't mindlessly keep pushing like russia did in bakhmut, that would have ended this war quickly, and not in ukraines favor.

@alec1984 yeah, barely trained is what i think. They have all been, so why would this be different? When would they even have trained all these guys?

@JJKillerElite indeed. And the ability to openly say what they are doing is a failure and the ability to quickly have the entire millitary shift pace is what makes them succesful. And why russia has no chance to achieve anything worthwhile in ukraine. It allready has been the biggest russian strategic blunder in memory. This will turn it into an operational blunder as well.

@thorn6809 if you have the luxury to rotate troops in and out of the front line you can have newbees rotate into defensive positions first. Let them get used to things and then have them do light combat like recon with experienced guys to let them grow as a soldier before moving them to the real front. That can really increase survival rate. Loads of russians where sent their first days into full on assaults. Which is just crazy and also a massive waste of resources. They aren't just a danger to themselves but to the entire squad that they are part of. I'm sure this isn't as bad now as it was in bakhmut, but in the end most of these guys will be another bunch of convicts out of the prison system. Badly prepared and badly equiped.

@Dave5843-d9m those cluster bombs will come in handy right about now indeed.

@tokyo.peking who is waiting to be destroyed? It has been an extremely effective tactic for ukraine. Why not exploit another chance given to them by putin? Clearly the new general in charge has a need to urgently show results and impress putin. Yet another time where russia will commit as many resources as it might take to achieve a battlefield "succes". And fhey are going to have to pay dearly for it yet again, assaulting again and again frontally into dug-in ukranian defences. While ukraine slowly retreats and gives up a few meters of land at a time in exchange for lots of russian blood. Russians are so extremely predictable and stuborn. Facinating.

@James-9999 yeah, i'm not saying it is going bad. They changed strategy and it has been going well for them as far i can see. But the big assaults aren't going to be comming and it seems that is what people are expecting. They are putting immense presure on the rear of russia in the south, russia is with the back to the sea, there are only 2 routes for supply they can use that can pretty effectivly be squeezed by ukraine. And they are keeping up preasure on the southern front to force russia to keep expending resources they need to replace and to go after their artillery. And they will take any ground russia is willing to give them in the proces This is all going very well it seems and if they can keep this up they have this in the pocket. In the east however, they seem to be facing a large force and i think they will be exchanging territory here in order to sell it to russia at an extremely high price. A bit like what happened in bakhmut. There is a new general in charge that is under presure to show results to putin. He needs to capture something decent and will over commit to try to do it and will accept proportionally high losses to achieve it as well. The last thing ukraine needs to do is try to hold territory at all cost, they need to inflict high damage when they assault over open ground and when they come to close fall back. Let them come at them over open fields again at high cost and when they come to close fall back again. Stretch their supply lines and make them pay dearly for that desperate win again. Bakhmut broke the russian army and caused havoc in the kremlin. Another episode like this will cut deep into the kremlin and their millitary. And for russian claims, i don't take any of it seriously until i have seen it confirmed visually.
