The usa is slowly losing grip on the web it spun over the last 80 years. And still keeps resorting to the only solution it seems to know, doubling down on failing policy. And still it refuses to kick their addiction to oil. Imagine what it could have done the last 20 years if it was commited to decreasing it's reliance on oil. It would have taken away so much leverage from other countries

@eirikarnesen9691 it depends on the rest of the world using the dollar to trade in general, and oil just is the biggest portion of that. But the world is quickly moving away from oil. It is unavoidable. If the usa had any sense it would do the same. Refusing to will only put it behind the rest of the world more and more over time. Burrying it's head in the sand only increases the problem over time. There have been so so many issues stacking up for the USA over the last decades and there will come a point of no return that is quickly approaching. The time available to right the ship and avoid desaster is running out.

@eirikarnesen9691 things just don't disapear. Things shift over time. The dollar reserve status has been slowly declining for decades already. And it will keep declining until it is eventually just sidelined and replaced by trade in other currencies. The euro replaced a lot of currency exchange between european countries that before always used the dollar as a median. A lot of asian trade with china is already done directly in yuan without the use of dollars. Russia is now only selling directly for rubles. As this becomes more common, countries will hold less dollar reserves and more reserves in other currencies. Slowly decreasing demand for dollars over time wile increasing demand for other currencies. If the usa would sudenly default right now it would be a major disruption sure. But that is just not how this will play out. It is basicly financial MAD. Crashing the usa economy would severely hit the economies of the ones trying to challenge the usa's power. It is all about transfering leverage away from the usa to yourself over time weakening the usa economy and soft power globaly while strengthning your own and gain the upper hand eventually.

@eirikarnesen9691 aren't you the light of the party lol. I don't see why global trade would stop existing. The worlds supply chains are so heavilly integrated nowdays. No reason why that would sudenly stop if the usa fades away from power. Where in history did such a thing happen before then? That wasn't caused by natural desaster? Political gravity moves around the globe constantly, these things take decades or sometimes centuries to play out.
