  1. Gray Farmer : Android runs on the "application processor". There you can find all the bad apps etc... but rms refers to the backdoors installed in the "baseband processor" which is TOTALLY OBSCURE, extremely protected and out of reach from the "application" space. There is just communication between the 2 processors with mailboxes... But the baseband processor has TOTAL CONTROL over the application processor as well as the rest of the hardware, such that backdoors in the baseband processors can modify the memory, on top of turning the microphone on etc. That is why "Free Software" lost, during this decade : the big companies have used it as a Trojan horse while they have totally locked the HW up. Repeat after me : "There can be no Free Software without Free HardWare Designs"

  3. which might pay in the long run... have you heard about the latest HUGE problems with Intel processors ? when you work with computers, you know they are riddled with bugs. They get in the way of just everything. Having one system that WORKS reliably and that you don't have to perpetually update is a wet dream for most engineers... whatever the performance or features. So yes : an old computer can work better than a new, faster one.

  9. Stallman is often criticised and he doesn't care. his duty is not to please you. He's not courting you, but exposing a true sad reality that you can barely see. Often, his simplifications make it less appealing because reality is complex. But you should get the point : USA has become what Stalin's USSR would have dreamed !
