Russia's worst nightmare is Ukraine completely independent from Russia fully developing its natural resources and selling it to western Europe. Western Europe won't need russian gas and Russia won't be able to use gas as political leverage over the west This war was never about Ukraine having Nazi or joining NATO that's just a smoke screen.
