@BM-nk1pe yeah you can do both Roth-ira is just a type of investment account specifically for retirement.
Since there are some major tax benefits(e.i not having to pay taxes if you withdraw at the appropriate age) there are some rules one must adhere to.
ETF and index funds are just a type of investment that does not require specifically said retirement account or any retirement account.
All one must have is an investment account through a company (often called a brokerage), some brokerage examples are: robinhood(Comission free trading [meaning you don't have to pay a fee to the company with which you have the invesment account every time you buy or sell an etf, stock, index fund, mutual fund, etc]; and you get a free stock upon thoroughly signing up to robinhood https://share.robinhood.com/jeroneg1 ), Fidelity, E trade, vanguard, and many others are brokerages with invesment accounts
Some of the aforementioned brokerages you can have both a roth ira(& other retirement accounts), and an investment account not for retirement. Best way to explicate that is how you can have both a checking and a saving account with your bank account.
I personally have a roth ira retirement account (a type of investment account) through a brokerage(the company through which you get an investment account) with predominantly etfs(a type of invesment) and maybe two stocks( type of invesment), and i have a non-retirement account(an invesment account) with only stocks in it(type of investment)(which may prove to be an erroneous decision on my part).

@Just999Me uuoo looks l struck someone's emotional chord, being that my mom is 55 and i think she still look young, your characterization seems to have errored
I thought it was obvious(i guess not) that I was saying that he looks a lot younger than thirty, it is a logical fallacy to then assume that i am implying that thirty looks old. But if one interacts with people of different ages enough one gets better at approximating their age, notwithstanding the fact that 30 (and even 40 at times) still looks young.
16 year olds and 20 year old girls often don't look drastically different in age, but to the "trained" eye it is easier. Therefore if one who can usually tell the difference then says to a 20 year old, you look very young, this would seem to apply "you look young for your age" and "not that you have the general look of youth" that can last until 40s if one takes care of their health(among other genetic components)
Lastly this is all based off one's subjective perception, so any subjective matter is subject(no pun intended) to variety of perceptions of said matter.
Age, like weight, is often a sensitive matter to people because no one wants to get very old but few people want to die, and it is impossible to both live long and not get old; the anxiety that derives from this conscious or unconscious realization leads it to be a sensitive for many people.
