Hell... both of my parents spent their lives in laboratories and universities, studying, conducting experiments, solving equations, discovering natural laws and teaching science in three different languages.
I was raised by real scientists. I can spot clowns pretending to be scientists just by their phrasing and tone of voice, even before they say something very stupid, which usually happens very quickly. Their profound desire to sound smart has so little to do with a thirst for knowledge that it makes my ear hairs stand on end. They belong to a radically different world, extremely alien to the scientific world, and it is fatally impossible for them to recover from decades of not studying and researching to deceive those who know what it takes. It's not even a matter of degree or achievement: their attitude to the world in general is simply different.
As the saying goes, "I may not be a fishing expert, but I can tell who is randomly fooling around."
