Unpredictability is every army's worst enemy. Better to rely on a kitchen knife or a stone found by the roadside that you know will work as intended.

They likely saw it coming , but they could not maneuver out in time because way too slow for the missile. So much for "Russian higher moral values"… * This discards the official incentive of saving population in the Donbass: If people in the Donbass were difficult to save, they would not save them? * This discards the official incentive of fighting nazis in Kiev: If Nazis weren't weak, Russian would not fight them? * This discards the official incentive of defending the motherland: If the motherland was attacked by a powerful enemy, they would not defend it? 1:48 How can you count dollars when there are about 11 human lives on board, @JakeBroe ? Also, strategically, it's not all about money. It's about time , because the qualified personnel inside such plane takes years to train (otherwise it's useless). And it takes another similar plane, plus other planes playing as "enemies", to train them. The cost of the plane itself isn't the main cost.
