If the Japanese government in a moment of madness allowed 1,000,000 British people to emigrate there and get Japanese citizenship would the world's total population of Japanese people have gone up by 1 million? Of course not. Similarly if the UK govt in 1948 had given new arrivals from that point on and their offspring a 'guest worker' right to abode in the UK but not citizenship people like Sunak would not be British. I prefer a definition that has a bit more meat to it than that. And I'm pretty certain no Indian regards Cliff Richard as Indian!
