  1. What a wonderful way for your mother to celebrate her 70th birthday. This episode has brought back memories of my own trip from Denver to Los Angeles back in August 1989 on Amtrak. The California Zephyr back in those days was combined with The Desert Wind (To Los Angeles) and The Pioneer (To Portland/Seattle). Back then, one could have the open air experience similar to yours by opening the top half of the Superliner Dutch Door with the permission of the friendly Carriage Attendant and the Train Manager (impossible on Amtrak these days due to security issues in our crazy world). Thanks for the memories. Looking forward to Pikes Peak and your Colorado Steam Train experience (Been there, done that in 1995). Cheers from your Aussie friend in Melbourne.🙂🙂🙂
