I think the lawyer Ravi is in the wrong. He himself admits that the legal cases he takes tend to be the hopeless sort, and yet he deems it unjust that the State fines him for filing trivial motions. Sounds to me that that is exactly what he is doing, since the motions of merit would have long since been filed by the previous lawyers. So, if he is exactly guilty of what the court system say he is doing, what is the issue?

Kinda your fault, really. You chose to go to Korea without prior research. Unless it was very long ago, a quick Google search would have informed you of your upcoming unpleasant experience.
18
The TJC non-profit is such a waste of resources. Campaigning against the death penalty in a country with hyper majority support for it is clearly going to be a failure, you are simply wasting resources. It likely won't even sway public sentiment as a lesser goal
18
That comment including Amazon and Facebook is incorrect. The American economy is so massive that even the largest single company in the world is a significant but not overwhelming % of it. South Korea on the other hand, has a serious issue and should consider outright dismantling these chaebols.
10
"Doesn't seem like a reasonable take on this racial issue. For literally thousands of years, it has been the accepted notion in China that these Blacks are inferior. In the absence of a sharp external environmental force, this cultural norm will almost certainly remain. You simply have to accept it for what it is, if you choose to be within China."
9
Man, you are lucky as hell. The more typical name that would be applied to you within China is Black Ghost (literal translation). Black Pearl is incredibly nice.
7
And her point that the root cause is socio-economic issues is silly in the 2nd richest country on the planet. If you are still poor despite living in Singapore, actual poor and not merely lower middle class, then one should ponder upon oneself. (exception for our elderly citizens who reached adulthood prior to 1973)
6
@SorryLankan That is not the issue. The issue is that he states that the court is punishing him and implies it is unfair, while at the same time admitting that he likely does engage in such conduct. That is like complaining a sunny day is hot. No shit.
5
@yingyang2405 Because under the rules (of the US and Singapore court systems), the lawyer is not permitted to ***knowingly*** file motions that he himself knows is of no legal merit, and ties up court resources. This is not isolated to the Singapore legal system only. Other countries punish such behaviour as well. The typical punishment is a fine though, no prison time.
5
Sadly, we dropped to rank 2 recently.

Listening to her one-sided account exclusively and without any NUS rebuttal, I condemn her and find her fully at fault for any discomfort she felt from the investigation (excluding the broken promise not to call the cops, which should not have been made if this is true). My comment is restricted to this part only. NUS has done poorly on many of the earlier initial cases, I am just victim blaming her and her specifically.
5
@kalista7695 Huh? Is Jeremy that guy that hassled her? I explicitly said that it is not about her sexual assault case. It is about her bullshit entitlement complex towards the police.
5
What nonsense. The entire Earth would be devoid of living conscious humans. Except maybe the mentally disabled.
5
To be fair though, Nicole's grandfather was right. She really doesn't look that good, and can't afford to be that picky. Speaking as a man of Chinese racial heritage, within the context of our cultural and racial norms. His observation, while unkind, was fairly factual. Given that she sounds a bit neutral on marriage, she should bear this in mind
4
@yingyang2405 So since you agree that the lawyer is indeed filing such motions of no legal merit, then it makes sense that the Court punishes him, correct? Because it is against the rules to do this.
4
@yingyang2405 It is good to punish lawyers who file motions that they themselves know are of no merit. Since it wastes resources.
4
@yingyang2405 No no no. This isn't about politics either. You can oppose them, no issue. This is about you personally as a human being, about how you behave poorly. Hence, I am encouraging you to become a better person, to mentor you to uplift yourself. :)
4
@mshoney9301 No... The very fact that you cannot understand that is a sign of your poor thinking. Actually, I think you have convinced me that you are not faking it. After all, the mainstream new media frequently reports on such extremists on both the left and the right. I think you sincerely cannot see an alternative to your particular way of thinking. Anything outside that is forbidden.
4
@KD-sz7fq They are not operating within the government-designated districts
4
This doesn't apply to that Indian who became a citizen and served in the army. But a lot of the complaints featured were discrimination against foreigners, whether from India or China. I mean, doesn't it make sense to discriminate against poor foreigners who are migrant workers? All else being equal, a landlord would logically prefer a wealthier renter, right? As for the outright racists, well..., not ideal, but it is their property and in Singapore, property rights are extremely extremely strong in this aspect
4
Oh, and those born disabled
4
Disagree. No respect is necessary. Specially when the students are going against school policies. You can do as you wish, after you graduate
4
@yingyang2405 Correct, so because he is similarly a true believer, he files such motions of no legal merit. And therefore, the Court punishes him. We are not the only country that punishes such wilful acts.
3
@yingyang2405 So you want lawyers to waste Court resources?
3
@mshoney9301 Nah, people are entitled to be rude, subject to the consequences. And when the entire society chooses to be rude to you, there is little you can do. Don't go where you are unwelcomed
3
@mshoney9301 And? We both expressed logical consistent positions based on our values. People have different values. You are the one missing the point in understanding this, not me. I consider the fault to be hers, due to her negligence
3
@mshoney9301 I am aware I won't convince you. But anyway, she should really visit my home country Singapore instead. Unlike South Korea, the colour that matters to us is the colour of your money. We welcome foreigners with money, that is one of the more distinctive traits about our market-oriented economy
3
@mshoney9301 Yea, as I said, I already gave up on you being a logical person, so it was more free text form. You people are crazy. Tsk tsk.
3
@MayaMaya-tj7kw Your skin is naturally whiter, but turns darker with the infusion of UV exposure.
3
@sepirophswife1072 It is ok if you are offended.
3
@sepirophswife1072 I understand you are offended. That is ok.
3
"For literally thousands of years, it has been the accepted notion in China that these Blacks are inferior. In the absence of a sharp external environmental force, this cultural norm will almost certainly remain. You simply have to accept it for what it is, if you choose to be within China."
3
Yea, that makes sense. The Chinese discriminate against people perceived as poor in a very very blatant way
3
@phadenswandemil4345 Not if her expectations are to such an outrageous extent. I become so offended that I think she herself is a bad person.
3
Yea, but the Government is not denying you an education. You yourself choose to drop out, because it is so uncomfortable for you Your discomfort and mental health are not important to the Government, and they obviously will retain their standardised policies rather than allow you special treatment. The expectation is that everybody falls in line The teachers shouldn't go out of their way to hassle the kids though. Only when it is due to school policies
3
These Chinese people move for work, but it is separate from the racial notion that the Chinese race remains as the supreme race.
3
They are both. They are a human being, and a warning to others.
3
That Chinese lady is not being entirely honest. Yes, she may have chosen to remain single. But under Chinese culture, she is deemed too inferior for marriage due to her tattoos and lifestyle. Mainstream men will not marry her
2
@yingyang2405 No no no. I am not arguing about the status of criminal law in my earlier post. I am explaining that the immature way that you lashed out after losing the argument on legal motions of no merit is not good. That you should be more well behaved and mature. Are you very young and still in school?
2
@mshoney9301 You didn't understood that. So I would consider that missing the point.
2
@mshoney9301 You didn't understand that we are simply coming from different viewpoints, which was why you thought I missed the point. When in reality, you missed this understanding.
2
@mshoney9301 Are you trying for a Woke award or something? Because this is the internet, so that is kinda silly
2
@mshoney9301 No, that is absolutely and literally not what I am asking. And you know very well that that is not. Basically, yea. I think you are faking it and just want a silly "Woke on Internet" award. So childish. Thought you were a proper person initially TLDR: Research your vacation spots before going, to have a pleasant experience
2
@mshoney9301 I have been clear and direct in my communications. I expressed victim blaming, in that her conduct led to her unpleasant vacation (factual) and that she the victim bears blame in this (subjective opinion). I have been so blunt and direct, that your supposed misunderstanding can likely only be you faking it or you yourself are delusional.
2
@mshoney9301 I suspect you of attempting to win Woke points, because I suspect you of faking it. If you simply expressed disagreement with my victim blaming and supported a more inclusive society, that is entirely acceptable. Faking it is not, in my eyes.
2
@mshoney9301 I am fortunate in having had access to a science-oriented quality education. My college even had a required module in critical thinking specifically, aside from the normal engineering modules. I shudder at you people, both on the left and the right.
2
@goldbluetears Yes, yes. And so?
2
@yaemiko9280 Go away
2
Er... in your case, you should try to have lighter skin, it is literally healthier if you are tanning due to excessive UV exposure as you said.
2
Yea, no shit. Of cos the discipline mistress herself will conform to the birth cert name. Only to be expected, right?
