@fulladrenalineattractions7283 let's not get distracted by terminologies, the people know exactly what the survivors did, they knew they weren't murdered but eaten after they were dead. They had knowledge of this.

Why are you surprised about the backlash? Its completely expected. Cannibalism is big no no, and a taboo for a very good reason, and they should have been welcomed with opened arms knowing that. However, context is important, but at the same time we shouldnt be too accommodating to make it an acceptable behaviour. You should ask yourself things like: 1. Was it really necessary? Did they have other options. 2. Was it out of malice or was it really about survival? 3. Could they have found other sources of food if they tried harder? I think the survivors checked all of these, but the public dont know that.
