I thought so as well. the teachings are very sensible and almost common sense. But tell me, why the most powerful country in the world with all the brains behind it lose the Vietnam war? In the heat of the war, people stray, they dont stop and think, they follow their schema on how wars should be fought.
As predicted by the vietnamese the U.S bombed the places they expected them to, they stayed close to the U.S soldiers so they were always safe from air attacks. But the biggest downfall of the U.S is that its citizens did not approve of the war, especially when the U.S started getting attacked. It was a basic teaching of Sun Tzu, if the enemy forces are strong, attack where they are weak.
Also you made a very bad comparison to knowing something and applying something. just because teenagers know, doesnt mean they would act it. Like teenagers know that drving intoxicated is dangerous, but they would still do it.
Sun Tzu didnt need complicated calculations on how you think the war should go. He used his experience and what he found effective. Little truths can do wonders rather than big speculations.

This is actually against the teachings of Sun Tzu. Wu actually had a counter measure for things that are unhonorable. It's very simple. Use strategem. You dont tell your people that you are attacking the enemy when they are weak is not honorable, but because its a good strategy. Honor is this imaginary thing that you came up with in your head, there is nothing else but victory, because when your state is is overthrown and your people dead, did your honor save them? A proud general is not an ideal general.
Sun Tzu also had a philosophy where, you dont start wars simply because you have the numbers because that is just tyranny, you start wars to keep order, so in that sense, he has the highest honor, and thats why your people will follow you. This is something that Genghis Khan was very famous of, he conquered the world because he wanted order and everyone to be united.
