Wow. Neil got so pissed off of Joe from asking why, he started calling him bald.

@Wizznilliam yes, some scientists still question the validity of gravity, it doesnt make sense completely in some pieces. What Neil did here is he is closing the conversation on the theory of gravity, if I recall correctly, this is not how the scientific method works. Infact this is very detrimental to it. This is similar to the God argument religious people use. Its a real shame. I also think Joe made a brilliant counter argument agains neils analogy between hair follicles and gravity, which simply was "we know a lot more about hair follicles than we know gravity" (thus its ok to dig deeper and ask more questions).

Joe: you seem to be getting frustrated by the act of asking "why" Neil: no im not Joe: yes you are Neil: no im no.... turns into The Hulk.
22
@YeahBass3k Sure, but that wasnt the problem. Richard Dawkins can get angry but hes angry at religious people who make no sense. Here is Joe Rogan who just wants to understand the universe better and his inquiries are getting shutdown by a scientist saying "You cant ask that".
13
Al Garnier Joe clearly wasnt asking for a purpose, Neil knows fully well Joe wasnt. Joe was simply curious. Neil knew he lost his point.
10
he didnt ask why gravity exists, he asked what is gravity. why gravity exists is a dumb questions to ask.
10
Joe proceeds to ask why. Neil tried to shut him down. Joe asks why Neil doesnt know. Joe said thats why hes asking
9
Joe wouldnt dare call someone out whose an expert of their field, unless Joe wad absolutely sure he knew what he was talking about. Luckily he did.
8
@warpath8453 who said you cant obtain why from science? The fuck? Science answers why all the time. But science cant stop people from asking why again.
7
@haiscore2614 because this is what Neil was afraid of, and this is what Joe Rogan was NOT asking. There is no sense to asking "why" in the way you phrased it. Why asked that way is a loaded word, you are looking for intent. Humans have intent the rest of the universe does not. Thats why its ok to ask "why do we have spoons?" we invented it so its easier to scoop food, there is a creator and purpose for it. As opposed to "why do we have gravity?" this is implying an underlying intent and purpose.

Joe got the better of him.
4
Radda Radda That wasnt the point he was trying to make dumbass, the point he was trying to make is asking "why" gets you nowhere(which is absurd). He only said its a frontier because Joe got it out of him. If he just said that in the first place, then Joe wouldve stopped asking dummy. Neil had a hard time of saying "I dont know" thats why Joe called him out.
4
@haiscore2614 this is a loaded question. Its like asking me "what did you have for lunch?" what if I didnt have lunch, I cant really answer your question, you have to phrase it better.
4
@PATTHECATMCD I thought it was funny at the end when Joe, asked him for the last time "Do we know what gravity is?", and instead, Neil says, "No, were working on it." If he just said that earlier, it wouldve been over right there.
3
Joe was being reasonable. Neil got angry. Angry people lose the arguments, because its a fight or flight thing. Neil was on autopilot.
3
@brooksbrooks6805 this explanation makes no sense. Joe is simply asking "what is gravity?" and Neil went on to assume Joe is asking about God. Do you understand?
3
@warpath8453 Thats not what I said, I said Einstein did what NDT said you shouldnt do. Which is question things, and dont settle for 1 answer.

EDGE BRAH

Joe has drugs and alcohol in his studio usually. Neil needs em
2
I didnt think I would see the day that Joe 1 uped Neil in an argument. Neil is just echoing Feynman about not wanting to know "why". Joe has a very good point, which is its ok to keep asking why, as this might lead to newer discoveries. Curiosity and inquiry is the bedrock of science. Joe is correct that Neil is contradicting himself. Neil preceded to call out Joe for asking why because of "purpose", which Neil knows fully well that Joe wasnt. Neil: 183 Joe: 1 (but a very important 1)
2
yes its very strange, he was one of the most open minded public speakers of science. its a shame it came down to this.
2
@warpath8453 why is inquiring, how is the answering. You cant know why Without really knowing the how. This is Plato and his stick. We have this thing called causality. Which explains the why and how relationship. What youre doing right now is exactly why Neil is frustrated. You dont think the "why" is ever answered.
2
This is like his nth time on this show, dont know why hes acting up. Bad day maybe.
2
Neil is always willing to say he doesnt know. But he just didnt want to be embarassed that Joe was right.
2
Newton would be disappointed. Newton invoked God but at least he was willing to look for an answer.
2
@MsMrdman98 Joe understood the concept from the start. Its Neil that was close minded dummy. Joe asked Neil if we knew gravity, Neil said were working on it, and Joe said thats all he was asking. Rekt.
2
@aqdjbcr science has this very important foundation called curiosity to inquire. Even Joe understood that.
2
Neil is contradicting himself here. He tells you to be curious and question things, inquire, figure out how things work, the wonder of science, the realm of the unknown, its a beautiful adventure to find things out, then he goes on to say YOU CANT ASK THAT QUESTION.
2
Exactly, maybe Einstein was wrong too like Newton was, but we just accept it anyway. Maybe there is a hand that guides it, but we wont know if we stopped asking.
1
@EddyA1337 He is a legend is all you need to know.
1
They are tackling gravity numbnuts. If he titled it Neil got anger issues, he would get sued.
1
you dumbass, Neil called himself middle aged and fat you dumbfuck.
1
Joe wasnt asking about God wtf
1
Its the dmt I tell ya. Neil "you got a bald head" Tyson.
1
Yes go back to the caves when life was simpler.
1
Neil is just echoing Feynman, but the problem with taking other peoples principle is theyre hard tk defend if youre not them. Feynmans reason for that is very unique to his persobality. It makes sense for him to say that because thats who he is. Neil had problems defending this point because he really is contradicting himself. You normally see Neil always telling people to ask why and be curious. Such a shame.
1
You obviously havent been high before. People who are high are hard to anger, it relaxes your nerves. this is the opposite of high.
1
Thats because you are bad at determining body language, tone of voice, progression of the conversation. Maybe youre just stupid, who knows?
1
He was asking "what" is gravity dumbass. The same way you ask "what is a supernova"
1
but why tho
1
Joe is not religious nor asking for a purpose, Neil knows this. Joe was right and he cant stand it. Simple.
1
@nigelsenchez actually it was the absence of facts which is why Joe was asking.
1
Joe got this one.
1
Thats why Neil lost the argument here. He was defending someone elses ideas(Feynman). Feynman wasnt trying to be right when he said that, he was just saying thats his personality, that hes happy to not know further.
1
Really? He just looked like a pissed man to me.
1
@warpath8453 Neil just stated a bunch of them. Didnt you even watch the video.
1
Stfu
1
@ArthurKnight1899 lol
1
@BlottaMcTablets "Somebody even included all the timestamps with Joe's reactions to getting disrespected." I rest my case, you dumbass lol.
1
@Nia-zq5jl i think everyone gets that, but i dont think you get joe's perspective. Which is the right perspective in this case
1
Im worried that the twitter people are getting to him.
1
Walter White well he clearly could ask it because he just did. Dont take things so literal, ive lost enough braincells today listening to this.
1
Remember the tweet he did after the mass shooting? Yikes. Ndgt needs a break, hes human too.
1
@IgnarHusky oh you dumbass, I didnt say his facts were wrong. Do you even have a brain? Do I go to your grandmas funeral and make a speech about statistics of death of people who got it worst off. I know Neil was momentarily blind sided for a moment in that tweet and recognized his fault, but the fact that you still dont get it makes me think low iq. Life is not black and white. What seperates us from other animals is awareness of the Gray areas.
1
Lmao
1
@fechegaray7 I didnt say there wasnt dummy. I also never ruled out the possibility. Youre the one implying something that you concocted in your imagination that has no basis. Who do you think is arrogant here.
1
@fechegaray7 You clearly dont understand that intent is a psychological process. A rock does not have intent. Although you can use a rock and throw it to someone and thats when you mix in intent. You might be confusing "intent" with the other things.
1
@fechegaray7 based on your reply, its safe to assume that my comment went way over your head huh. Intent is an illusion, it doesnt exist outside your own head. Its not real, its a series of mini causality that your brain uses as a heuristic to understand the world, because other people you interact with has intent, it was evolutionary advantageous then to know what your neighbour plans to murder you tomorrow or not. you get it?
1
"just" a spokesperson. He will do more for science than you will ever do.
1
@TupacMakaveli1996 most scientists also thought gravity the way Newton did at some point. But Einstein dared to question it. Dont be stupid. Its never a bad thing to ask why.
1
That wasnt what Joe was aking. Also science already have the answer for meaning and purpose: procreate.
1
@hahagotcha!!!! You seem confused of the semantics. Asking why, gives you the how.
1
@dctruth6380 no he didnt. Neil changed his story when he realized Joe was right. Do you even know Joe Rogan, he has no religious sentiments or believes in a creator.
1
@romarssieverything9667 no he doesnt. He is just echoing Feynman. Neil is contradicting himself by saying you should stop asking why. He even waved the white flag to Joe and saying its ok to ask at the end.
