So, not only are they weaker punches, but they also take a lot of energy out. Now the advantage of taking shots while on youre back is if you have the back of your head against the mat, the mat actually absorbs some of the impact of the punches, thats just physics, energy disperses. So, what you will see in a lot of the mma fights is even if someone looks dominant on top, somehow the guy taking the beating at the bottom is a lot more fresh. Fact is, Chael couldnt finish Silva, he got tired and got triangle choked, its as simple as that. I dont care how good you are at defense, but if you have no energy to stop him locking you in, it dont matter.

The UFC judges have always scored like this since the first fights. The rounds are not equal. The judges will always give a bias to the last round. for very obvious reasons: it doesnt matter how good you are at the start, the end is all that matters because that determines the actual totality of the fight i.e. it reflects how much damage you have taken, how gassed you are, and if you actually are a championship material.
