  1. It all comes down to economics. Fossil fuel is affordable so the masses can easily utilize it, and at the same time it has become a source of power and wealth for the few that have laid claim to the resources, refining process, and distribution, therefore making it a powerful political tool. I suppose the later could be said about any future energy source that may arise, there will inevitably be only a handful that control the majority of it because that's just how economics work and that can be seen with most established products. It won't be until the former becomes true of a new source when that new source takes off. I'm sure when fossil fuels first took off, the whaling industry fought it because it took away from their control over fuel. There will always be an economic hump to get over when any new technology is introduced for two main reasons, one being the established controllers of the current resource do not want to give up their power and their profits, and the other being the public desiring something cost effective as well as being skeptical or suspicious of anything new and different.
