What is really mind numbing is to actually believe that everything in the finely tuned universe we live in just happened by sheer chance. The universe could have existed in nearly an infinite number of forms, yet it exists in such a way that star formation can happen, life can happen, and specific laws and rules exist that cannot be broken or circumvented such as entropy and light speed. It isn't a lucky fluke, it's a design. And you don't have to be "religious" to believe there is a Creator of all, just logical. If you want to talk about "dishonesty", maybe try first being honest with yourself. What is more probable...a bunch of matter and energy appeared out of complete nothingness and then organized itself into a complex state complete with physical laws, or a force greater than our limited knowledge can fathom designed it this way? Cause and effect. With no cause, there is no effect.

I cannot accept it for the cosmos because at our current level of understanding, the cosmos is not eternal, there was a beginning at big bang and a presumed ending with heat death. This would indicate it came from somewhere, and that it will not go on forever (and this is going off the current popular opinion in science). Something with a beginning and end must have a cause. I agree with OP that it is most logical to concur that it is a greater intelligence that is itself not created but eternally existing, a prime mover, intelligent designer, God, or whatever it may be. I should actually say "most logical" when compared to other known alternatives, those being an infinite regression or repeating loop, or, appearance out of a state of complete nothingness. Those are both illogical. I will admit I am not so extremely zealous in my opinion to say there isn't another possibility outside the realm of what we can currently conceive, but for all alternatives we can conceive, an intelligent, all powerful, and eternal force seems more logical than appearing out of nothing (impossible for nothingness to change state as a catalyst would be needed, which couldn't exist in nothingness), and a repeating loop or cyclical universe is just turtles all the way down. A multiverse would be similar, where do you stop, where is the origin?

The question is absurd because it implies infinite regression. It's no different than saying the earth sits on the back of a giant tortoise, but what's under that tortoise? Another one, and another and another... turtles all the way down. All the way down to what? Because we live in a universe that abides by the laws of cause and effect, we cannot fathom infinity. But if our universe was created out that which exists outside of the universe itself, then whatever that is does not necessarily have to abide by the laws of our universe. Infinite regression is absurd no matter what realm you are in, but infinity is not. Simple logic would dictate there is an endpoint at which a force all powerful and infinite exists. Is it God? Perhaps. But it's something.

@Muckytuja I think the person who really needs to grow up is the one who trolls comments up and down the board to flame and ad hominem attack everyone they disagree with. I won't take credit for this, I saw it in another comment but it applies here : "Take a few minutes to get off of your atheism reddit and go touch grass". It may be a new experience for you. Sounds like you've been cooped up in your parents basement for too many years. If it offends you so much that some people think differently than you, life is going to be very hard. I am assuming you are a child by the way you speak and use poor grammar. You got your life ahead of you, go do something more productive with yourself.

@bastiaan7777777 So then what do you think the universe came from? Nothingness? Too many flaws in that theory to even list. Most important being that a state of nothingness is impossible, proven by the fact there is clearly not nothing now, and in order for nothing to change state into something, a cause would have to exist, which a cause is something and can't exist in nothingness. It's a circular argument.

@Dooguk What you describe is religion, and a specific few at that. You don't have to be religious to believe there is a greater intelligence that put the wheels in motion...only logical. All other paths lead to infinite regression, or everything magically appearing out of complete nothingness (which is an impossible state). Do you believe in magic?

@itsJPhere Here we go again with setting up a strawman to tear down. Again, religion and creation are lumped into one. They are not one in the same. It doesn't matter if there are thousands of stories about different gods, millions, or one, it's stories written by men, not by gods. You don't have to be religious to believe in an ultimate Creator. I have plenty of issues with organized religion, but I believe in God. The one and only, the only one that matters. You can write infinite stories about God and that makes no difference. It's interpretation and folklore. Stories don't matter, logic does, and it is illogical to believe the universe popped into existence from utter nothingness and magically developed all these physical laws and rules.

@Muckytuja What difference does it make, whether one dies in this manner or otherwise, we all still die. Obviously this structure is a superior one as every higher mammal shares the same or similar structure. You need not even bring God into the argument, one could just as easily say why did evolution allow for it? If it is such a poor structure, should not then have evolution weeded it out? Again, there's good reason for it or else the most advanced forms of life, at least on this planet, wouldn't be structured that way. The simple answer is, we are not made to be ourselves gods, whether an actual God exists or not. That's an absolutely ludicrous expectation in a finite universe with entropic law. Everything that exists eventually dies off whether it is a person or a star.
