I was thinking the same thing. It's basically a scientific theory of God. You have to think if such a thing could exist, being that it would take 10 duodecillion years to reach it which is unfathomably longer than the age of the universe, that such beings would have existed through countless deaths and rebirths of the universe or multiverse, and more or less control all of them.

Let's not beat around the bush here, a type 7 civilization, from this explanation, is essentially God. Interesting to me how when you push the limits of scientific theory, it can converge with that of the religious realm. I believe that science and religion have more in common than hardliners of either side would ever be willing to admit. We are just too primitive in our understanding of either to fully realize it.

@meziahdanieljolley8842 Yes, alien can mean foreign, different, strange, unknown. Alien is used in that context here rather than meaning extraterrestrial.

It's like a reverse Dyson sphere if it got big enough and dense enough, blocking out sunlight instead of harnessing it 😂

The Kardashians 😂

On one hand, I also find it absurd. But on the other hand, what would an ant think of human civilization? They wouldn't think about it period because they it is unfathomable to them. We would at best be ants in comparison to some of these higher level civilizations. As Arthur C. Clarke said "advanced enough alien technology to us would be indistinguishable from magic". Sagan substituted "nature" for "magic", which even makes more sense. Of course it's a wild thought, but I don't think it's impossible everything around us was manufactured by some high level intelligence. Maybe it's even a simulation. Which would basically make them Gods to us. We couldn't possibly know.
2
That's a good point. You don't call dogs a race, you call them a species because they are not human. Same would be true for extraterrestrials.
2
Non-human would be better, although alien can also mean foreign or unknown.

Agreed. Construction of such a structure may not even be possible, and even if possible, not practical. More of a Dyson swarm type structure would like be more feasible and practical.

We definitely will if we don't colonize off earth in the next billion years because the sun will expand and cook the earth. But a billion years is a long time, countless other things could do us in long before that. The odds are not in our favor, not impossible odds, but plenty of great filters like gamma ray bursts, asteroid impact, nuclear war, etc.

One piece of human anthropology I find to be very interesting is that at one point, it is estimated that the entire human population of the earth got as low as about 6,000. I believe that was during the last ice age, but not certain. Pretty amazing to think how close we came to extinction and now there is over 7 billion humans.

@xtianosickboy Well done. Pun intended 😂

"Non-human" would have been better. I also would equate alien to extraterrestrial, but I suppose alien could just mean foreign or different in this context.

One piece of evidence of human existence that will be around for a long, long time, not forever but very long, is the moon landing site, the footprints, the flag, etc. Since the moon doesn't have plate techtonics or weather to sweep the evidence away.

Well, real actual climate change could kill us off, as in a drastic natural swing in temperature and environment. The nonsense hype they are slinging at us now as an excuse to raise taxes and control us, not so much.
1
A Dyson sphere would be impractical and maybe not even feasible. A Dyson swarm would make more sense, or something like it. Or if we had that level of technology, it might even make more sense to cover existing bodies with receptacles to harness energy, such as the bright side of Mercury. Yes, it would be unfathomably hot there, but if the technology was great enough we could develop materials to withstand the heat and the work would be done by robots/AI.
1
I agree with the others that structures, tools, or anything constructed would be long obliterated by now, but you make a good point about fossils. As there are fossils of countless other species, surely there would be fossils of a former humanoid species if it existed.
1
Fun fact, if humans went extinct tomorrow, the best surviving evidence of us if aliens or a future intelligent earth civilization went searching would be on the moon at the landing site of the Apollo missions. The footprints, flag, etc, should be around for a very long time although eventually will be burned up by the sun just as earth will be eventually. But would any future archeologist know that their origination was from beings from earth? Not necessarily.

Personally, I like the great filter theory as it is a very plausible explanation to the lack of evidence of extraterrestrial life. Keep in mind also there could be multiple filters each with their own unique set of challenges to overcome. Some may be behind us, some ahead. The obvious one that would be in the future is self annihilation by technology (AI, nukes, etc.). Natural disasters and cosmic events like Gamma Ray Bursts, Supernovae, etc are always a possibility as well, but that's more of a random shot that may or may not ever effect us. Our position in the galaxy gives us an advantage, being in somewhat of the galactic "boondocks". Other civilizations may not have been so fortunate. Or maybe it is impossible for life to even exist in more chaotic regions like nearer the galactic centre.

@@JohnaldWickThe theory is we somehow get passed this stage of humanity to reach such a level, another enlightenment, if you will. I have my doubts also that this can happen the way things are going, but in the other hand sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. It took the dark ages to give us the Renaissance, it took world war to give us jet and rocket propulsion. There could be something on the horizon that unites humanity after all this, I won't hold my breath, but it's not impossible. Honestly one thing that could do it would be an external threat of some sort, like an asteroid or even a hostile alien species, people would band together against the threat rather than attacking each other. Unfortunately I think it would take a big negative like that to bring about a positive. Our biggest threat now is each other. We are compartmentalized and pitted against each other, and that gets us nowhere.

I can't remember where I set my keys two hours ago, imagine trying to remember something that happened a million years ago 😂

I think they meant spacial dimension. While time is indeed considered to be the 4th dimension, it is not a spacial dimension.

I don't think I would want to be immortal, but a lifespan around that of a Vulcan wouldn't be bad, and if we don't have some major setbacks in the near future, could possibly reach this in a few centuries.
