You are the same age my dad would be now if he was still with us. He used to tell me how they had target shooting in gym class and and a rifle team at the school. I went to the same school in the 90's and kids used to keep their hunting rifles on the gun racks in their trucks in plain sight. The world was a different place then. For my days in school it was only a few years before Columbine happened, but that one event is what changed everything afterwards.

@Mr.White10-65 Exactly. My grandfather used to say "times change but people don't". And that's exactly it. Bad things absolutely have always happened. There are lots of factors as to why there are more shootings and other violence in schools now than years back. I think one is mental health. When I was in school, the kids who were disturbed or had mental issues got shipped off to a special school...now they are mainstreamed. While that may sound more equitable and fair, it really isn't fair to anyone, especially the actual persons with mental problems because they just end up getting bullied more.

@vvrrb.3962 What an idiotic statement. Practically every single kid in my school had a gun and if not their parents definitely did and nobody ever got shot at my school. Saying guns are the problem is like saying cars are the problem for drunk driving deaths... it's the people, stupid...not the gun, not the car, not the instrument.
