  1. On paper they are all different but in practice they all break down into authoritarians. But someone else here also made a good point. Fascists were never meant to be "nice" nor did they pretend to be, they didn't hide their strict order and told you it was for your own good. Where as a communist would tell you all these wonderful stories of rainbows and sunshine and community, but in the end be as bad or worse than the fascists in implementing their power.

  2. Also it should be taken into consideration that these were all European definitions of left and right...which are quite different than Americans define it. In Europe the right was always the aristocracy, the nobility, and the loyalists to them, and the left were those like the revolutionary French, revolutionary Russia, Weimar, etc. It was stodgy old traditionalists and reactionaries vs. libertines and borderline anarchy. A much broader difference than as defined here. All the different definitions by region and over time have basically made a mess out of defining any of these things. In many places outside the United States, a national party is right, a liberal is center right, and a labour and or social democrat party is left. Most places outside the U.S. liberal doesn't mean left, it's more the classic definition like a modern libertarian. As a libertarian myself I also, like Dennis, say there is a big difference between a liberal and a leftist.

  3. ​ @CambriaCandiceMaria Also notable that counties like Norway (a favorite mention of lefties as their shining example of socialism) are not socialist either, they may have a good many social welfare programs, but private ownership of business is still allowed, and even more importantly, Norway is like 98% ethnic Norwegian and has very strict immigration policies, has a relatively small population for the land size, and has great natural resources...so they can afford these programs without bankrupting their civilian workforce. Completely different can of worms here in the United States.

  4. ​ @charlesbradley5757 What's funny is they all used some form of red. The opposition was always white. Red Soviets vs White Russia (Belarus) was one example of this.

  5. Both are authoritarian, anti democratic, and give much of the ownership of big production and commerce to the government. Hitler's national socialists absolutely controlled the big industry and business in Germany just like regular socialists. Of course there are differences between socialism, fascism, and Nazism, but the main qualities of each are similar. Liberalism (true liberalism) is in the middle as another commenter said.

  6. DEI and social credit scoring are modern examples of fascist capitalism. Privately owned companies, but pushed by government and holders of wealth (e.g. Blackrock) to operate a certain way or else face negative consequences. This certainly hasn't been a right wing effort.

  7. "The private sector is allowed to exist, so long as it is completely subservient to the state" Sounds familiar. Sounds like DEI. Sounds like cancel culture. Sounds like today's left. But today it isn't only subservience to the state but also to the private wealth holders, business like Blackrock and Vanguard, and people like Soros and Gates.
