Absolutely correct. I work in a service oriented job (tax preparation and financial consultation) and I work out of the main office in a busy suburban area, part of the time, and out at my "outpost", the small satellite office I manage out in a rural small town. The majority of the customers at the main hub are total NPCs. Fake people, no personality, don't want to make small talk, and most very superficial and self absorbed. The rural location is the direct opposite. People are real. You can make small talk with them, most are farmers and factory workers and corrections officers at the state prison, and are down to earth. Most of them (rightly so) distrust the government. They act like I'm an actual person and not a service bot there for their use. They aren't all nice people but many are. But even the jerks are real. They don't feel phoney like the city people do.

School isn't about learning, it's about conforming. I never quite fit the mould. Yeah I graduated, and graduated college, but I was smart enough on my own to do it but was constantly told I was a problem. My son is going through the same thing now. Bottom line is society doesn't like independent thinkers. They want you to suffer with the rest of them in a giant collectivist nightmare. But the thing is if it wasn't for independent thinkers, I'd probably be sending this comment via smoke signal 😂

@ZacharyHolton Others don't like it if you are not obsessed with local sportsball team. I live about 2 miles from an NFL stadium and haven't watched a snap of the ball in over a decade. People don't like it. They act like I have some sort of disease. I just have better things to spend my time on and concern myself with.

Nobody wears a proper watch anymore (except me). Was at a meeting the other day and noticed every single person was wearing a smart watch, and then there was me with my analog tick tock 😂 Hey, it's Swiss movement, so don't knock it! 🇨🇭

My wife does it, my kids do it, heck even my 80 year old mother does it...get tuned into their devices and tuned out of the world, that is. Sometimes I feel like I am in a twilight zone episode. One of the ones where everyone else is crazy and you are sane but you are treated as the crazy one. Of course that's like half the twilight zone episodes, but you get my point 😂

@freebird1989 I hear you. Even as late as 1999-2000, I lived in a house with 5 other guys in college and we had 2 landlines between the six of us and zero cellphones. And one of the two landlines was for dial up internet 😂. We all survived. I often leave mine behind as well when I'm doing other things. 90% of the calls I get on it are spam anyways 🤣

Had Myspace back when it was new and was a novelty. Once Facebook took over I never joined and never joined up with any of the others. Haven't touched that Myspace account since like 2007. I wonder if it's still sitting there with Tom as my only friend 😂

Not only all this, but most families did it off one income back then. Granted I was 1 year old in 1977, but I remember the early 80's my dad worked, my mom took care of me and worked part time a couple nights a week for a few hours at the mall, we had one car and a modest home and we got by. We weren't poor but we certainly weren't rich. I dare say we are not worse off, but certainly no better off today with both my wife and I working full time jobs. Things certainly were simpler 40 years ago. Today the extra person working basically pays for the extra car and childcare expenses that didn't used to exist so you are no further ahead working twice as much.

There is unclaimed land out there, it's just really crappy, barren land. They even tax the air now in some cities. Literally. You can "buy" the airspace above other structures to prevent them from building upwards and blocking your view.

I'll say it again we are in the fourth turning right now. I am optimistic things will get better but it will be awhile and people like me in my 40's will be pretty old by the time they do. I feel sorry for the younger generations that have to live these times for their youth. But hopefully good times will be ahead for you when you are my age. We had our time. Sucks that it's over now, but it's good memories. While social media has been much more of a burden on society than a positive, one thing I can say is good is it is a place for others who think this same way to connect. If nothing else, at least we can all have each other's company as the world goes down in flames 😂

I'm certainly not one to defend modernity, in fact usually I am quite the critic of it, however I will say times have changed but people haven't. Before phones/social media were the boogie man, it was chat rooms on AOL, before that TV, before that rock and roll, before that women showing more than their ankles and men going without a hat, before that God knows. But it's always been something, and we are all just stupid enough to get addicted to it. However where I really think it's different this time is the instant gratification aspect. You had to wait for your favorite TV show, your favorite song on the radio, etc, but now everything is at your fingertips when you want it. It's the bread and circuses of the modern era, and we all partake and let the world pass us by. Yes, I am here as well, but obviously, though I will say YouTube is my only guilty pleasure in terms of media, TV is awful so I don't watch it, and I do not participate in any social media like Facebook, Twitter/X or any of that garbage.

It's mouse utopia but with people. The "beautiful ones" just sit back and groom themselves and post no nonsense to social media. The real ones trying to reproduce and keep society going are getting killed off by the psychopath aggressive ones. The males are all turning homosexual. The gene pool is doomed.
