My family had a '91 Volvo 240 Estate, in white. As it looked like a refrigerator on wheels, we nicknamed it "the Fridge" 😂

They were still kicking around until around 2010 or so they became very niche. You could still get many popular sedans in wagon form prior to this. My parents were always big wagon people. They had a Volvo 240 Estate, a Mazda 6 wagon (actually fairly rare), and an Audi A4 Avant. Not much to choose from now. You can still get a Volvo wagon, and I believe a Volkswagen Jetta (Bora in Europe) in a wagon, I think that's it. I don't think you can get an Audi wagon anymore.

Take care of it and you will get a million out of it. Rock solid vehicles.

When I was in college, I used to crash in my Escort hatchback. Just folded down the back seat and there was just enough room to sleep diagonally in back. It helped that I am only 5'9".

My friend had one of them when we were in high school in the early 90's. It was great. It was even a manual transmission. We used to all pile in that thing. No third row seats but we piled in the back anyways 😂

My family had a white 240 Estate that we called "the Fridge".

The town I grew up in was probably like 75% Swedish American. Having a Volvo or a Saab was a way of life. We had two Volvos, a 240 Estate, and a 960 sedan. The 240 was bare bones, but it was a tank. The 960 was such a nice car. Fully loaded and every bit as nice as a 3-series or a C-class in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure you can still get a VW Jetta (Bora) wagon here in the U.S. It's one of the last wagons around, sadly.

When I moved out of my college apartment way back in old days of 1998, I borrowed my parents '91 Volvo 240 Estate, and I literally packed everything I owned in that thing and had room to spare!

Remember the good old days when literally every sedan on the market came as an optional wagon? Not just the behemoth estate wagons, no you could get a Ford Escort wagon, a Chevy Cavalier wagon, a Toyota Corolla wagon, anything your heart desired outside of the really small subcompacts, but even a few of them came as wagons. Pepperidge Farm remembers!

Ever drive an older Volvo wagon? My parents had one when I was in highschool/college and I used to drive it. It was a '91 240. It was an absolute tank. Yes, it handled like a tank but it would also drive through a brick wall without scratching it 😂
