I still use a 13" Trinitron from the late 90's for playing my old video game consoles like NES and Genesis on. Still a solid unit, and a proper way to play the old game systems..they just don't look right on the modern flatscreens.

Hook up a Betamax to it and you have the trifecta of Sony!

Got a 1998 myself. Have had it in my non climate controlled garage for years, through freezing winters and humid summers, and it still works great. I use it for playing my old game systems on.

Still is...heck even my early Sony Bravia LCD TV from the mid 2000's that I keep in the bedroom has picture quality very near the 2 year old LG 4K LED TV I have now in my living room as my main TV. I wanted a Sony for my new main TV but I didn't want to cough up the extra money! The new ones are incredible.

I have one. It's damn near close to the early HD tube TV's in terms of picture quality, and it is of course SD.

Smaller ones still go for a decent buck because people use them for monitors and retro gaming. I have a 13" from the 1990's that I will keep until it dies.

Never had a Hitachi, but next to the old Trinitrons, I must say another good old TV was a Toshiba I had from around the late 80's that my cousin got in Japan. It eventually died, but it had great features and a nice picture for the time. It even had picture-in-picture, which was cutting edge for the time.

Sony is the best. Outside of a VCR I had from the late 90's from Sony that crapped out after a couple years, every other Sony product I have ever had has been great. Still have a working 1998 Trinitron, a DVD player from about 2007, and speakers from the same year, and a Bravia from around that time and all work great. I even had a Sony cordless phone, and gave it to my mom when I got rid of my landline, and she still uses it... it's from probably around 1998-99. Back in the old days Magnavox was good too. I still have a working '84 Magnavox VHS VCR. I also had a 26" Magnavox from 1988 that as of about 2009 or so was still working when I donated it. Their stuff now isn't that great.
