  1. Metal awnings are also pretty common on older homes here in the northeast. The advantage to them here is they can withstand the winter weather, icicles dropping on them, etc. Fabric ones have to be taken down every year before winter, which usually involves paying a company to remove and store them. But yes, those metal ones do look very dated.

  2. My parents house had awnings when i was a kid. The pest factor definitely was a drawback. They used to get loaded with very large yellow jacket hives.
