  3.  @NakedAvanger  because gold also suffers inflation, and the deflating effect is ultimately harmful to the economy. Even rome suffered economic inflation despite the usage of gold. and since they needed to desperate inflate their economy, they had to dilute the gold, which reduced the value of the currency and created an unstable balance.

  5. the romans used gold. they still suffered absolutely atrocious levels of inflation because you always need more currency with which to keep the economic bloodflow going which devalues pre-existing currency. you need a flexible currency.
