  1.  @dakotadurham4788  thats because joining the military during peacetime is one of the few advanced and relatively reliable career options for people who live poor or rural, whereas job options and travel is already more available to people who live around areas in the north. war-time is of course entirely different, as cities have way more people to levy. i guess it just goes to show that the union was ultimately successful. for the most part.
