couple of things -the vikings/norsemen who traveled via volga to the byzantines and black sea did not come from france/normandy, but sweden generally, traveling along northern sweden-finland and down or just directly across the baltic sea. calling it normanization is therefore a bit weird. -the persistent downplaying of norse influences on the development of slavic culture is mostly a russian thing, whereas Ukraine/ruthenians are more open to the interpretation. also worth noting that sweden has had a close relationship with eastern europe throughout most of history, with Carolus Rex even attempting to aid the ukrainian Cossacks against Russia. which leads us to the third part. -Russians are actually Muscovites, which is a separate slavic people from the old Rus. Moscovia having been a mongol vassal state, with influences primarily from the mongols and the islamic world. it wasnt until the moscovites conquered Kiev that they re-dubbed themselves as russians as part of the "Russification" of the empire.
