the problem isnt capitalism, and never has been. the problem is unregulated capitalism that isnt built around a social national framework., when individuals can run circles around governments with their billions of dollars, twisting and turning the screws of a country with their unfathomable wealth.

@tritium1998 The trade off is freedom, artistic pursuits, education and not being responsible for half of all the pandemics that fuck over the rest of the world.

its fascism.

@卡卡d i assume you either didn't see the protests or political upheaval in hong kong in the final day before it became a media blackspot, out of either wilful ignorance or active malevolent denial of them happening. the literal moment hong kong fell under the authority of chinese law enforcement all protests disappeared, because the freedom to protest and express disapproval was no longer allowed. China was very open about this, and i am perpetually shocked you people pretend that it isnt happening.

@卡卡d according to "locals" in imperialist china nothing happened on tianamen square either. a lot of things just dont "happen" in china, especially when those things happening would look bad for the regime. there is a reason china doesnt have any friends on the global stage.

what makes the war in ukraine disastrious is because Ukraine supplies a great deal of grain to the world. Not helped that Russia is going out of its way to ruin harvests.

@k-techpl7222 with other words: the problems with a free unregulated market is that said free unregulated market corrupts the government.

a big problem with "is this socialism or not" questions regarding, be it the soviet union or china or cambodia or vietnam or whatever, is that you basically have to ask several smaller questions as well. -Does it adhere to socialistic beliefs and philosophies? -are the people running it genuine socialists? -Is it still socialism even if it has no socialistic elements because intent<results? Is it still communism if the state still reigns supreme permanently, even though the state is supposed to be temporary in a communist system? its like a christian sect still being considered christian even if it rejects jesus and the new testament. I also think its important to highlight how little changes when a country goes from fascism/imperialism to communism. ultimately it feels like a somewhat reductionist dichotomy, "capitalism or/vs socialism".

@ravigopinathan2835 not just less freedom. barely any freedom. In the US you can make a career as a figure critical of the government or politicians or what-have-you. you can be a comedian or a solo political commentator without worrying about legal reprecussion. in china your population score falls if you step out of line until you arent even allowed on the bus anymore. just look up xu Xiaodong. Democracy is better in that it allows everyone to say how they truly feel, whereas you make the claim "many chinese support their government" when in reality we know they arent allowed not to. every country wants to believe its the best, thats true, but there is a reason why almost 150k chinese people moved to the US in 2018.

But ultimately even in a larger country the system would be partially localized and differ slightly between different regions. countries like Sweden manages decently with an extremely sparsely located population, for example.

@incognitotorpedo42 not really. check several different new sources.

Why is the goal of these people to always "industrialize africa", as if that is the 100% optimal way to go about it. a village in Uganda doesnt need to enter the global market of trade. they just need enough resources for subsistence living. setting up more fields for farming than what is possible or needed considering the scarcity of water, just so that they have more resources to trade with, is beyond daft.
2
that is true, but you have to remember that china is its own country on the other side of the world, with its own eco-system of products and content. its own internet, its own film studios, its own everything. its a proverbial bubble. and in this bubble american fast food resturants still reign.

@grantjohnson5785 "reee libruls r so whiney!"

its difficult to measure. On one hand, Bush fucked up horrendeously in the middle-east. On the other hand, Trump fucked up every geo-political relationship, antagonizing south korea and Ukraine and threatening to pull out of NATO.

the difference is that denmark and each individual european country isnt actively suppressing the number of babies allowed. we're also not playing around with billions of lives, meaning that a 15% drop in population number in denmark isnt quite as bad as a 15% population drop in china or japan.

@thekrakenrises9040 Not every forest needs to become a mall or a skyscraper. If these people want to industrialize, fine, but let them come to that conclusion themselves. Don't excavate their lands and replace all their crops and fruit patches with fucking corn.
1
@thekrakenrises9040 But again, they should come to that point on their own, not be made to grow undesirable crops en masse using water reserves they don't have access to.

@grownstepchild3135 The US spent 20 years in afghanistan. the worlds strongest military, billions if not trillions of dollars spent. Cue the afghani military and government falling after a month. There was no way the withdrawal would have gone well, outside of the US straight up colonizing afghanistan.

@danielcaldwell1110 Hong kong was never controlled by the US in the first place, you ape.
